Building a smoker

Recommended Posts

Its tipping it down here & I'm bored  so as usual I've been inspired by the recent threads regarding smokers to have a go at making one.

I've cut the top out of an old drum & burnt it out to remove all trace of what was previously in there, & cut the bottom out of a dumped shopping trolley to create a grill/shelf (I know naughty boy) but I'm sure M&S wont miss one trolley

Question is what now?

And has anyone got an old webber drum BBQ lid that they no longer need?

Any tips & advice would be appreciated

Cheers

You could probably get away with just a sheet of steel roughly cut to size and weighted down with a brick for the lid. Put some hooks on the underside and you could even smoke whole fish from the top.

From the other threads, it seems having a series of different mounting points for the shelf is a good plan.

cool!

i made one yesterday with a steel rubbish bin (new), i put water in the bottom and filled an iron bucket with charcoal and set that in the water, then hung a bbq grill inside it with wire; punches a few holes in the lid and i was sorted, made asmoked chicken, very nice ;)

Me & a Mate tried making a cold smoker last year. Should have seen it. Typical bloody over the top design by my mate. It ended up looking like the mother of all cybermen. 2 metal dustbins with bits of flue liner coming out at all angles, etc.

If anyone has any details of how to make a cold smoker, any chance you could post it?

And if that wasn't bad enough, we dared to venture into the realms of making our own elderflower champagne. Christ, that was a mistake.

I'll post that story in the "off topic" section
