I have recently aquired some new land to shoot over so today i went down for a walk around, there was hundreds of pigeons flocking into the woods on the boundery but there was already a couple of people there sending the pigeons scatering all over the place. I then began to notice shooting from a lot of the woods around so i went for a walk to see if i could find any small spinneys to shoot in, after about 10 minutes i found a small spinney slap bang in the middle of a field ( i think it may have been an old bomb crater ) it was about 50 feet square with trees running all the way around the out side so i got in and it wasn't to long before i had a few pigeons. I shot one that layed dead up a tree and it seemed to start to draw the pigeons in so i started displaying all the ones i had shot in the trees around i ended up shooting 19 in about 2 hours so i was happy, just before i was about to leave one of the dead pigeons seemed to jump into life and go flapping down the bank which made me jump out of my skin then apon closer inspection i realised that there was a bird of pray attached to its back trying to nick it. has this every happened to you

thanks very much

Had a hawk smash into a dead pigeon I was using as a decoy on a couple of occasions.

The late Archie Coates recounts an experience in his book where a hawk attacked a dead pigeon he was using with such aggresion that the stick holding up the pigeons head impaled the hawk and regretably killed it.

only 2 weeks ago i witnessed a hawk attacking my PLASTIC SHELL decoys twice while out shooting. amazing to watch, and it also solved the pigeon murder mystery around the woods near where i live. turns out a peregrine has set up shop and is wreaking havoc among local woodies. another case of "If only I had my camera!"

The spinney i was standing in was set about 10 feet into the floor and there was lots of smaller trees around the top edge of the spinney so i just went up the bank and put them in any low tree branches and bushes seemed to pull them in from miles around shame i never took my auto but i don't like to walk around with it because it takes longer to unload and reload so i took my over and under
