Cosd
Me and two buddies went out this morning, drove around but fields were very quiet. Picked up on what seemed like a flightline and I set up on the corner of a rape field, whilst my two friends set up elsewhere. Set out 11 shell decoys in a horse shoe pattern with the wind behind me, lofted one full body above the bush where I was sitting and another 10 yards away on another bush. I wouldn't have lofted anything that low but they seemed to be sitting around and not feeding so I thought I'd give it a go thinking they might just venture closer and then see the pattern. Within 5 minutes of settling down the first decoyed nicely, I shot like a numpty and missed when it was just 6 feet off the ground After another fifteen minutes a second came straight into the kill zone and this time I dropped it stone dead. It went quiet for an hour then I got three more for three shots, so I was on 4 for 5 shots which is excellent by my standards. It went quiet again and didn't even see anything flying for 45 minutes or so, then a group of 6 came in perfectly. This is only the 3rd time I've had this opportunity, and even though I've read about it numerous times, I didn't do what I read Instead of following one bird I panicked and as they were bunched I let off two shots missing them all I was gutted and annoyed with myself at the same time. I finished the day with 9 in all for 16 shots before packing up at 1pm as my mates were having no luck and wanted to leave; One of them got 3 woodies and the other mate got none. Not a big bag by any means, but I still enjoyed it. My pattern worked well and with a slight wind I managed to steer them in at exactly the right angle. I couldn't shoot to my left as there were buildings about 150 yard's away. So when I set my horse shoe pattern out I made one leg of the pattern slightly longer so they would veer in more form the right.
eagle eyes
Well done It's been very slow around here lately, I was out for six hours last week and only managed to bag one woodie Went out for a couple of hours the other evening and got a couple of crows. Looking on the bright side it's better than being stuck indoors and my cartridges are lasting well. turk101
Cosd, well done at least you enjoyed it! don't you just hate it when they come in a small flock? I have actually followed the bird i was going to take out first only for one of the other birds to cross it and get me all confused ending in a missed bird or three turk101
