best of luck

i hope you get it,

each time i asked it was just after i put in for another cal.

Open for 22.250 after 18 months -------NO!

again just after i put in for a 30.06 -------NO!

i have enough land to keep me busy for a while thats past for what i have so cant see the point just yet.

i might as well wait another 12 months now. unless i have the urge to get something else

Good luck with it. You've had your FAC long enough now I should think, but each force is different. When I put in for mine to be opened these were some of the reasons....

1. A restricted FAC was restricting my work. I do some pest control in the large gardens I work in and getting each one cleared because the Deer are eating the roses would be silly!

2. These gardens are private, so the owners are unlikely to appreciate a police visit and they are very unlikely to have been passed in the past.

3. I would most likely just do the job and then never return, so why bother going to all the effort of clearing it to take one shot?

4. I shoot with an experienced open FAC holder. I often couldn't shoot with him and gain more experience (making me safer) because his ground doesn't need to be cleared.

5. By the time ground is checked the pest damage has usually been done. I need to get started as soon as possible if I want to keep my customers!

6. My first bit of cleared ground is as flat as a bowling green and has the M5 at one end. If I can shoot that safely with my Deer rifle then surely I can judge safe backstops for myself in most places I'm likely to encounter.

7. Every new permission I have is studied on a map before shooting to establish where footpaths, roads and dwellings are. From that I can have a good idea of safe shooting angles before I get the gun out of the slip, which is pretty much all the FEO will do anyway. Once that is established all I need to do is make sure of a safe backstop for my shots, which is simple to judge by comparing it to the ground I've had cleared already.

I put a few more reasons in but I don't remember them. Loss of potential earnings was another but it may not apply to you. Above all though you need to make it clear that you know what you are doing and that you are a safe shot.
