Hi Everyone,

I am about to apply for a variation to my FAC in order that I can undertake pest control including foxes.

I want to know your recommendations as to which calibre is most versatile. I have researched the advantages of .22.250 and .222. Is it possible that either of these calibres would do for stalking deer as I may want to do this in the future.

Any help or advice would be gratefully recieved.

Regards,

TDC. :)

TDC, the .22 centrefire calibres are legal for muntjac and CWD only, south of the border. And the law requires that the rifle is producing 1,000ft/lb at the muzzle with a >50gr bullet. On that basis you're wiser to move towards the punchier .22 CF calibres like the .22-250 if you are limiting yourself to just muntjac and fox control.

Paul and the thuggish one have hit the nail on the head: you want to look at the .243 or 6.5x55, the two dual-use calibres opted for by most Shots. If you're planning to do a lot of fox and deer control, and you'll be reloading, there are various other avenues to consider.
