Raja Clavata
what did the heaviest ray come in at? and were they all thornbacks? Nothing special and certainly nowhere near double figures and yes they were all thornies - very rarely see anything else over our way (occasional sting ray)
MC
RC, You have spelt biased wrong, you have spelt it "balanced" for some reason. Anytime you want to fish on a proper charter boat let me know. The Enterprise from mersea had 40 skate and 5 bass yesterday. A;ong with the usual sand sharks. I seem to remember a couple of the smaller skate being returned so that is why the numbers don't add up. I put 4 in the box and lost probably the best one of the day. Still never mind it is only a game. You are beginning to sound like Catamong though.

Yes, it is, so don't go taking below the belt shots like that then Reckon we'd of had a similar haul if we'd gone skate fishing but we agreed from the off that was not what we wanted. Evil Elvis
We ate my 2 skate tonight and the 15-16 skate eyes.....have to say the eyes were the best bit of fish Ive had in an age....did the skate on the barbie with black pepper butter and salt and the eys were done in a very light beer batter.....scrummy!!!!! Raja Clavata
Have to say those skate balls look champion mate the meat just falls off doesn't it Apologies for not mentioning it before but I always freeze my skate before eating it, I hope telling you about them still flinching as you put 'em in the deep freeze didn't put you off It's amazing how many people have the popular misconception that they always taste of amonia... For those not accustomed to "skate eyes" / "skate balls" terms - it is actually the jaw muscles cut out of their faces.
Evil Elvis
It was scrummy fresh..........both the kids tucked in and Lisa loves skate anyway.....have to say i preferred the eyes!!!

Raja Clavata
Each to their own, small thorny ones often get to "swim wild swin free" again cos they are not worth the aggro of skinning imho. Baz, I've mentioned Bro's cat enough so here is finally a picture of it (please don't refer to the location in any reply, ta) - what weight do you reckon? Evil Elvis
Long and lean if it had a gut on it id say 100lbs+ but looking at that.....70+..........good fish for the UK.!!! and NOT an import!!
Raja Clavata
Yeah, that pic does not do it's gut justice, see if I can find one that does ...
Evil Elvis
I'd say 70-80lb max from the piccy, has the potential to be huge, with all those young carp in there IM supried its still there, that will easily swallow a mid double!!!! Raja Clavata
Any change to guesstimate?
Evil Elvis
Not really, that gut is relativley small and its clearly empty, knowing the food source in there im suprised tbh Still a cracker...........
Raja Clavata
Cool cheers Might have another try later this week, those pics are 2 or 3 years ago now. He got snapped the next week with a fish he could do nothing with, not to say it wasn't the same fish but pulled a lot lot harder.
Evil Elvis
This was the smallest cat i had at 79lbs....you can see that are a lot more "solid" , I dont think that cat will stay that lean for long, it has the potential to be a 100lb+ easily............ Evil Elvis
This one was only 107lb...looked a lot bigger...................

Mungler
You're not missing much. It's a bunch of boring pictures of Baz holding varying sizes of ugly fish. There's no shooting, no cars and no chicks.
Evil Elvis
BIG MACHO fish, not fur flung fish...............................
Raja Clavata
They were definitely towards the end of the queue in the beauty dept. but they pull like just about nothing else, worth a go if you get a chance Mr Mung.
longshanks
Sorry this post is a bit late men ive just got back! Which one of you ******* pushed me in??? Its a long swim from the knock! Wont bother going over old ground except to say i enjoyed the fishing and the company, the fishing could have been kinder to us considering the effort put in by the skipper! Cant wait to see how the Mersea boys do it, im sure MC wont pass up an opportunity to show us how it should be done!! RC i do think the "professionals" taught us something new on the day! It has to be said EE that thanks to you i now know that fair skinned people should not go out in thick fog. Baz you ended up looking a dead ringer for a red pander!! Baz i have no problem dispatching rokers, i just look at it as payback after one of them mistook my thumb for a whelk which then took 10 mins, 3 men, and a chair leg to get it off!! Looking forward to doing it again... Longshanks
Raja Clavata
Yep, I'm gonna look into a convenient date for a cod wrecking trip - this time we'll let the tide dictate the date rather than other way round, so could be mid week. Might even appeal to the fluff flingers amongst us? Would deffo be up for a trip out of Mersea later in the year, over to you MC.
MC
OK, I am out with Chris on the Enterprise on the 20th july, I will book a day then. It will probably be a weekday as I know he gets booked on weekends way in advance.
