reddan
I am due to move house soon. Obvously I have to tell the police my new address but what do I do with my guns while I am fitting the cabinet in the new house? Realisticly I am not going to be able to fit it same day I move. Do I get my licence holding friends to take them for up to 72 hours? only slight problem with this is I will end up with shotguns all over the place as none of them have room for all my guns on their own. Could send a couple in to the shop for a service? Or could just leave them locked in the cabinet which isnt fixed to the wall? Someone else on here must have had the same senario to deal with, any advice would be gratefully received. Dan
Cosd
Different FAO's will ask you to do different things. Mine was happy I let him know where the guns were (friends with SGC and cabinets), but your's could want something else. Best thing is to give him/her a call and ask them. al4x
if you're in the house then just keep them in the cabinet not fixed to the wall and fix ASAP, realistically if you buy the bolts ready its only a 15 minute job to fix it so thats the easiest option. jonno
Even if you do fix the cabinet up the day you move in, is it legal until it has been checked by the FEO?
al4x
yes its all you can do as long as you notify them you are moving its all you can do. Once you're in and its fixed they will arrange (possibly) but not always to come out and check it.
Bluebarrels
Why not lodge them with your local RFD for a week or so,costs a couple of quid per gun, that will give you plenty of time to re-register the guns and secure your cabinet, and get the necessary checks done,I know guns are our priority to get sorted, but if your married, your missus might have different priorities, they normally have!! and as you say your moving,i doubt if you will need your guns for a week or two until you get sorted, and if you take this option remember to get a receipt for the guns from the RFD. BlaserF3
When I moved house a few years ago I said nothing until the safe was bolted on the wall. I then rang Penrith, and told them I had moved house and posted my certificate for amendment. The FEO popped round a few days later, had a look and gave me my amended certificate back. I would have thought the best thing to do is say nothing until everything's back to normal,so long as you use your common sense where you put the cabinet. reddan
thanks to everyone that replied. first thing i did when i moved is put the cabinet up, the rest had two wait I admire your dedication to the cause, however, around the sametime we are due to move my wife is due to give birth so we will have two young children to deal with as well as the new house so I dont think I will be able to do the same. I might not even be there to move. I think I will give them a little holiday to the local RFD for a few weeks, that way if my parents need to move for me I dont have to worry about the cabinet etc. Dan
