utectok
my 500acre permission is next door to my house and my inlaws who belive shooting is morally wrong and claim there is no wildlife left. I am the only serious gun on my permission but all the other farms have big driven shoots. Now my inlaws are getting all their pals to sign a petition against me shooting not sure who they are going to present it to farmer? Police? I have done nothing wrong and spent the afternoon shooting clays and farmyard ferals with the farmer but what should I do given I try to get on with the inlaws! They want me to stop shooting I say there is loads of shooting in the contrysjde but towns are noisy to !

Ferret Master
On what grounds is the petition being signed on? And make a specific point of not sending them a Christmas card... yeah! That will show them! FM

utectok
I have moved my clay trap 2 miles walk up a hill so they can't hear it and use special light carts for clays but I'm not Shure there is much I can do about the pigeon and crows I shoot. As for divorce the wife says she will not get involved and if I posted a pic you'd see why I want to hang on to her;)

utectok
I'm quite glad the misses won't get involved as it would all get rather messy. I can deal with the inlaws better on my own thing is it's the m-in-l that is most upset but only the f-in-l that will speak to me about it! utectok
thanks for the support I did tell the farmer that the f-in-l had visited me to complain and then we went to shoot clays which was very noisy and I'm sure my inlaws heard it all! Views they are perfectly entitled to. Yet you oppose them vehemently, and yet get upset when it happens to you.
utectok
fullbore me old matey anyone can have any veiws they like and express them and discuss them all they like but the monment they start affecting peoples lives because of their views then the problems start ie people are intitled to racist views and I am entitled to disagree vocally but if the racist starts beating up black men or banning them from his busses

utectok
just examples of the differnce between action and opinion. Nothing personal mate. If I remember the USA equal rights movment was started buy some blacks not being allowed to ride buses. What I mean is the inlaws can think what they like but if they shouldn't be allowed to stop me behaving within the law.
fullbore
It happens all the time. They are entitled to their opinion, as they are also entitled to the quiet enjoyment of the countryside. You are not just controlling the vermin there, you are shooting clays. This sport of ours is inherently noisy, with shotguns being noisier than rifles. It seems to me reading between the lines, that the inlaws may have asked you before resorting to a petition. By your attitude in this thread i.e. " they shouldn't be allowed to stop me behaving within the law" shows the contempt with which you view their position. Many activities, work as well as leisure, interfere with others and consideration should be shown to others in such cases otherwise we all stand to lose out. Factories have been forced to close, airports forbidden from night flights, and shooting grounds closed etc etc. Perhaps you should have moved your clay shooting activities before it got to this stage, or even gone to a clay club
Mungler
I would just say to them that it's their democratic right to petition for whatever they like, just as it is your and the farmer's right to ignore it. You might want to tell them they don't buy toilet paper at No. 10 because on a daily basis people keep delivering rolls and rolls of paper For added effect, ask them to get one of those on line "virtual" No. 10 e-petitions going - they can have the slot just after the petition to ban Jeremy Clarkson from TV and the slot before nominating Susan Boyle for PM. Baldrick
what about shooting clays farmer is cool but is it once every 2 weeks to avoid change of use planning laws? I believe that current planning law provides the owner/occupier the right to use the land for shooting clays for a total of 28 days in any calendar year, before needing planning permission (and sailing close to the wind regarding a claim for private nuisance). Your in-laws sound like oxygen-thieving scum.
poontang
To be honest, as long as you're working within the law their petition is worthless. Tricky situation though. You've already gained the upper hand by moving your clay shooting out of earshot. Maybe you could reach a compromise on the woodies/crow shooting? Tell them you'll get a Hushpower.................................. If they pay for it!!!!!!
