banger316
The farmer rang me on Thursday, the pigeons kept bombing his barley field from the powerlines and was I coming over Friday. Well does a bear #### in the woods, I work a four day week so always shooting on a Friday. Arrived at the barley field about 7:15 only a couple of pigeons on the powerlines, but couldn't get near them without doing more damage to the crops. Tried pulling them over to me with decoys but no joy. (barley was wet from dew, now had to go back to the 4x4 for dry waterproof trousers. ) No wind, no interest from the 6 pigeons sat on the line by 10:00 not even fired a shot yet. Thought I might aswell go and try the linseed field as not having any joy here. Packed up and with 10 mins setup in the linseed oil fields. 11:45 still not fired a shot, no wind and no interest what so ever in the decoys. Time to packup and try for a couple of rabbits with the rifle in the grass fields before heading home. 12:00 final fired a shot and nailed a rabbit. Now could I nail one of the magpies in the fields near the A420 with the rabbit as bait. Put a magpie decoy out stood over the rabbit, headed back to the 4x4 50 yards away. Got in and looked at my decoy, then took a second look. It wasn't a decoy but a real magpie, fired missed sumed up my day really. Drove around the field but crops and hedgerow so high now couldn't see anything apart from the white tail of an odd rabbit running for cover. 12:30 had enough now but as I pulled out of this field the wind had picked up and I had an erge to check out a field at the edge of my permission. Full of pigeons. Floored the 4x4 though the field and set up the decoys, by 16:00 had 15 pigeons and a crow. Happy now head home driving past the barley field the powerlines were sagging because every line was full of pigeons :o might have to pop back their with the air rifle.
