I'm applying for my FAC soon and i'm putting in for a .22 and .17HMR. However, if i'm working for a keeper next year and have to do some fox control, i'll obviously need something a little bigger. I was going to put down a 222 or 223 as these are popular choices, but should I have something else? What would you reccommend as the best calibre for foxing and deer control?

your first fac will probably be closed and the police in your area are unlikely to grant you a 243

You could ask for .22 Hornet which is a good fox round.

I would be pleasently surprised (and more than willing to be proved wrong) if you were granted c/f on your first FAC application, but would concurr with the above opinions that .22-250 will do the job perfectly if its just CWD and Munty that your after, but any deer larger than will by law require larger than .240 100grn 1000ft/lb min, so .243 is about the minimum that will cover that.

I use .22-250 and .270Win. Between them there is nothing in the UK I cannot cull cleanly.

for just fox in the uk .22-250 for deer .308 but if your funds wont stretch then a .243 is the one to go for

there is no reason that your local firearms officer shouldn't grant you any caliber as long as you show good reason the relevant land and a good working knowledge of the calibers required also a letter or two from people who you have shot the calibers requested vouching that you are competant and have shown safe handling :good:

good luck
