mart028
After shoothing some rabbits yesterday i gutted and cleaned them, I noticed on the livers on a couple of rabbits had quite a lot of white blemishes on them, Is this due to a disease? Would this rabbits still be good for eating? They all looked healthy before i shot them.
30-6
I have ate them in the past, I now give them to friends and they seem ok. I think it's called coccidiosis and seem to flourish where there are sheep. Don't eat the liver or feed to animals. Also when gutting check for tapeworm cysts ( do a search on this site ). Frenchieboy
In my experience the white spots in the liver of a rabbit can be a sign that the rabbit has at some time been in contact with or recovered from Mixy. However, as humans can not be effected by Mixy it is perfectly safe to eat them, but the thought of it puts me off!
Zapp
I'd make sure it wasnt flukes if you want to eat it. I use the liver as a barometer of the bunny's health. Nice and purple and wobbly, good to go. Hard/blotched/flecked, something aint right. ZB
