LeeinVA
This is an trick i was taught many, many years ago.. I take pride knowing almost every bit of a deer will be used when i am done with it.. The back strap of the deer runs parallel with the spine.. Once you have removed that chunk of meat you will see that the exterior, out side portion has a tendon that runs the entire length? Insert the knife between the tendon and meat. Then twist the knife blade so that it is vertical with the meat.. Then lay the blade flat and cut the tendon from the meat as you would be skinning a fish. Now that the tendon is free from the meat lay flat and cut into 1/8" wide strips? Or you can pull it apart with a needle.. Now, you can use this tendon thread to mend anything leather, or canvas.. When it dries it becomes like a full pen weld. Or if the stuff is not needed tie into a knot and let dry.. To reconstitute soak in water till soft, separate a thread run over bees wax and start sewing May sound like work but its neat to know these early colonial tricks of survival
