Tobyb525
well said stick to what you feel is right thing on the day keep up good shooting mate Well done Toby, good shooting, The problem with internet forums is that everybody has an opinion and in some cases if yours differs from theirs you must therefore be wrong People are judging you based on their thoughts/opinions and what they are allowed to shoot on their own permissions - you are on your permission and if you can shoot them good luck to you - anybody who has a different opinion - fine but don't give the lad a hard time give him some support. Nice one!

chrispti
I said I was going to have a go at the rabbits over cover crop on sat night, sat there all evening but no bunies came out. I thought I was going to have my first blank but then in the last 5 mins just as it was getting dark this big boy ran accross the field and I got him with my new .410 (Leaves less shot in meat than 12g!)I couldn't believe the size of him, felt like half the weight of my dog! Well here he is: Toby. Nice one Been out with the farmer on a new permission pigeon shooting, He asked me to knock over any hares or rabbits if I see them, and I will, its a good piece of ground and I wanna keep it

wildfowler.250
Thankyou very much for those who supported me on this one! Just to clear it up - it was shot at 9:30 in the light....the pic was taken in the garden after driving home I know some will disagree but to be honest, when you sit there in a hide and watch a hare digging up crops at the other end of the field, when it comes runs in towards you, if you are alowed, I feel it is your duty as a pest controller to shoot it. I don't feel it's worth letting a crop suffer just because you want to shoot it in the phesant season. If your not happy shooting them - don't. If they are causing untold damage and its legal - in my book, shoot them. Toby But if said hare was doing so much damage (and especially if there was not much else doing) would you not have tried to stalk it and shoot it for the farmer? Rather than it comes near you so I suppose I should shoot it ? Just to clear it up - it was shot at 9:30 in the light....the pic was taken in the garden after driving home I now stand corrected, sorry for the confusion caused, i have shot them, but not at night as they seem to run towards the light, and i see no sport in that, so good on ya,and hope you enjoy eating it ..... Westcountryman
Why should i be jealous of shooting a hare, ive shot them for over 30 years but there is a time and it is not when they are breeding and may have young to feed[unless he sexed it before he shot it]No wounder they are trying to make them a protected species from 2011. All this is is good for giving the antis more ammo. Jeez, Give him a break. He's a young lad and is proud he's taken his first hare. Good on him. Do you want to young people to get into shooting? or just give them stick through the internet??? As someone mentioned before, Game shoots generally don't go for mixed Ground game and Birds, as there would be shotguns waving all over the place. That's what a Game keeper would be sacked for. I am happy to take the occasional Hare this time of year. Some area's have loads of them. Good shooting Toby!! If it's crop protection of any sort ie: pigeon, rabbit vermin etc: Then you and your farmer are ********! Rabbits breed all year, so i presume you don't shoot them in case it's a mother your shooting! Same with woodpigeon almost(not all year) They have young, how do you decipher when to shoot them and when not too? The animals we shoot have close seasons for a reason, thats when i will not shoot them, if they have no close season i will shoot them! As well as sport, many shooters are doing a job for the farmer, it's kind of favour for a favour. Toby well done mate, Dam good shooting!!!! You will alway's get the pigeon watch police making there comment's, ignore and enjoy what you are doing!! regards turk101
Bleeh
I think it's worth mentioning that the shooting of hares really depends on where in the country you are. - Here in Norfolk, there are biljillions of them - but it's sadly not the same around the rest of the country. I have honestly never found hares to do excess damage and it should be remembered that they are game, not pests - and should be treated as such. There are also parts of England where they are getting increasling rare, and shooters should think about their impact on local populations.
