Holepuncher
Bing-Bong I have a new CZ453 American in .22LR and it's a great little rifle. However, I too cannot use CCI for exactly the same reason as you. There's nothing wrong with the ammo or the gun; they just aren't a good match. I use Lapua, Winchester, etc and have no problems. Bing-Bong
Many thanks to all of you who replied, I will give you an update as soon as I am able. At the moment I am flying my falcons after work so time is a bit limited, but I hope to get up to Dereham on Saturday.
Conygree
I have a cz 22lr and it's hard on the bolt with CCI but they grouped ok, also with both CCI and Eley they won't extract live rounds but from recovered lead from bunnies they are heavly groved. Winchester will extract live but I haven't used them yet. One tip is to carry a tiny screwdriver ( I taped one onto the bipod) as every so often the case won't extract, just cleaned the chamber and all is ok. Anybody had simular problems with a .17 HMR ?? as I have put in for a variation.
MC
The recovered lead is heavily grooved because it has just been down a rifled barrel at fairly high speed.
Conygree
The recovered lead is heavily grooved because it has just been down a rifled barrel at fairly high speed. I accept that but it was more groved than say a 22 air rifle pellet, suggesting if the bullet has been heavely engaged in the base of the barrel it could be why they don't extract and as I don't recover many - they either go straight through a bunny or even more deformed ( + misses) I was tempted to use a rod to clear but dropped the idea, but it does mean the chamber needs careful checking before going home and its often dark. maddog546
I wish I hadnt read this the other day as its jinxed me,I couldnt get hold of any Winchester subs the other day so decided to try some Eley, what a mistake!!!! I had no end of trouble with the cartridges exiting the mag at too high and angle and trying to shave lead off the bullet, some were hard to close the bolt on!!!They must of been made on Friday afternoon or something-utter rubbish. Oh yes ,I have a 1983 Brno which handles anything I put through it but usually only have Winchester as it suits the gun and gives the best groups,I certainly wont be buying anymore Eley and the powder stinks! As you can imagine after owning the rifle for nearly 20 years its had an awful lot of lead chucked through it as I usually have to have 1 if not 2 repeat licences for ammunition room alone and thats with 3 entries per line.I'd hate to think how many bunnies have fallen to this rifle as even if I say so myself I dont miss very often and cover a large area of Cornwall. I tried the CCI's years ago and learnt that lesson,Remington cheap and cheerful if you can get all of them to go off, strange how you can have subsonic and high velocity in the same box though, must be stricked on their loading machines!!!!!! I havent seen any for a long time but you used to be able to get standard velocity cartridges that were right on the limit for the moderator and obviously gave that bit of extra range without the crack of the HV's,anyone know if the are still about ? Winchester superspeed were a good accurate HV and didnt loose their accuracy like the stingers did because they aintained the weight of the bullet the same of the lasers which were a bit hotter again, the fact that Winchester gets hard to get hold of at certain times of the year speaks for itself that its used by alot of people who are happy with it. bigdogwoff
i know bing-bong well!and im sure the problem is the ammo not the gun i will try and get over soon and try some differant ammo. i have a anny 1417 carbine and my brother has a cz carbine h/b and we have never had any probs with ammo loading but ive found cci to group very poor. keep in touch bing-bong
