njc110381
I just need to vent my frustration with some like minded people. I'm sure it will make a few of you smile! I sent in a variation last week to swap a .375 mod slot for a .300 mod and put a .444 Marlin on my old .375H&H slot. Anyway, got a letter back today. Quite quick - result, or so I thought. According to them I need to pay the variation fee as I got rid of my .375H&H too long ago. Late October 2008 in fact. So, what was that bit of pipe and wood that was sat in my cabinet until 6/7/09 (when I sold it)? Do they mean to say that they have no record of its return from Canada (the dates match)? And to think they've questioned my need for a third Deer calibre. I want a lever gun with open sights for close range woodland use as my shoot is really scrubby and I get within feet of the Deer regularly! Anything with a scope is hopeless which counts out the 6.5 and .300. Yet for some reason a third rifle is excessive? Forget needs and wants, I've got to sort their records out for them because they're so bloody hopeless! I question their suitability to hold a biro let alone judge what I should have. Stern words to be had tomorrow me thinks

Harnser
Njc , things are certinly changing . I used to have 3 different calibres for stalking , this was never a problem also 2 .22 rimfires and 6 handguns never had a problem with variations or applications . Alass we are witnessing the hidden agenda to severly control the number of fire arms owned by law abiding people in this country . Its being done insuch away that it might not be obvious . The continual hassle being put in the path of applicants ( compulsory mentoring and dsc 1 for stalking ) taking weeks to issue tickets and variations all unnecessary hassle . I wish you luck . Cushat
When I renewed my shotgun cert a few months ago Thames Valley had no records of some of the guns I had on my ticket but still had me down as owning stuff I'd sold months earlier. When I spoke to their firearms dept the woman wasn't in the least bit concerned, "oh yeah" she said "we had someone working here a while ago who made a right mess of inputting transfer data so the systems is a mess. It's ok though, as we've sacked her now". OK that they have no idea who owns what?
Dunkield
I had the same experience with TVP Cushat, we got all my guns out and went through the serial number s one by one. He said it was my fault for not posting my changes to HQ via registered post
dodeer
njc110381- just had the same experience as you. Dorset Police wanting £26 for a 1 for 1 variation! THis due to me selling the gun with a local RFD and since him selling it and me notifying them supposidly more than 7 days. Wrote about it on the stalking forum, so will be interesting to see what legal answers i get from there.
