Blunderbuss
It is illegal to shoot within 50 feet of a road, if to do so causes "harassment or alarm" (can't remember the exact wording, but it's something like that). So if someone using the road is "alarmed" or objects at all about you shooting 20 feet away, you're probably committing an offence. I suspect this dates from the days of horse drawn traffic and was designed to prevent Dobbin rearing up and running amok. Keep 50 feet away and you should be OK. Edward
I know you can shoot with your back to a footpath on the other side of the hedge
Harnser
I think that its 50 feet from the centre of a highway . Any way I have often set up in a hedgerow with a minor road at my back and have never had any problems . Harnser .

According to BASC site you are spot on: 50 ft to centre of highway http://www.basc.org.uk/en/conservation/sho...blic-access.cfm
MC
its a newish law last couple of years ,i can no longer plink in my back garden as i have a road run down the side of my house . That law is as old as the hills, There is nothing stopping you plinking in your garden, I assume you mean with an air gun? as long as the pellet stays within your boundary.
