Pernille
Hi all, I am conducting a study on the potential change in the population numbers of foxes before and after the hunting ban was enforced in 2005. To do this I am contacting different organisations for their observations of foxes, these groups include conservation groups, farmers and gamekeepers. The study is based on the financial and non-financial damage of foxes. I am short of gamekeepers observations and I would like to invite all gamekeepers to complete the survey. I would like to emphasise that the survey is anonymous. The results will be shared with the NFU, Wildlife trust and BASC so please see this as an opportunity to get your opinion across to these groups. Others are also welcome to complete the survey but please make clear whitch group you belong to. Any questions please let me know. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=25gM...4YXMEQAew_3d_3d Thanks Pernille

Pernille
Thank you for that. I hope you participated in the study as it is important that I include the opinions of gamekeepers/hunters.
Blackbart
If the hunting "BAN" was thought out more before being rushed through just to please mrs blair and a few voters and the thing was actually enforcable, then it "would" probably make a difference to population numbers of foxes, but it wasn't and isn't so you can not get an accurate account of a change in the fox population because in effect nothing has changed. Pernille
I appreciate this comment, and it is something that I have considered, this is why in the survey I have asked if the hunting method is still performed in the area as this will give me an idea of actual change in the hunting method. I am also asking if other hunting activities have increased to compensate for the lost hunting method. I am considering all aspects in the report including attitude so allow for the most accurate results. But this is only possible if get plently of gamekeepers giving accounts of their observations. Thanks to all those that have already replied.
JRS
another survey to protect foxes i have no doubt , a very interesting link by markbivvy which concludes by saying that farmers and gamekeepers are at fault for not protecting their stock , the public health issuses are only lightly skipped over . at the end of yet another survey i feel that the only outcome of this will be even more protection for an ever increasing pest , sorry i but i will not take part JRS

markbivvy
I often think the people who put together these pieces of fiction really do not live on the same Earth as the rest of us. That very true young John, but it wont stop them doing what THEY think is right no matter how wrong they are. Sorry but i cant help thinking that another fox survey is for the benefit of the shooters. the Link i found is just a pointer to way things are heading, down hill. would be nice to see the shooting organisations take on the above link. David and Ian are you there please.
Pernille
I do not accept these comments. I am here to ask for your opinion to be included in the study not to claim that foxes should be protected. My own opinions on the subject, whatever they may be, will never be included in the report. And if you dont agree with conservation groups intentions to protect foxes then this is an opportunity to get this across. I am and will stay neutral on the subject. But if there has been an increase in foxes and they are becoming and increased pest my study will show this. There has been no study on fox populations since the hunting ban was enforces so conservation groups (Wildlife Trust), farmers (NFU) and gamekeepers (BASC) that I have been working with are interested in what you have to say on this matter and have asked for my results once completed. If there has been an increase should more studies not be performed?
al4x
you probably ought to include Urban fox controllers as well, they are culling huge numbers of them and are busier than ever. There is little economic reason for it but the townies don't like them in their back yards so why should the rest of us have to put up with them
Piebob
I am short of gamekeepers observations and I would like to invite all gamekeepers to complete the survey. We are primarily a collection of pigeon shooters, many of whom may fish, shoot game, shoot vermin, ferret, etc etc. I suspect that very few of us are gamekeepers either part or full time. Wouldn't you be better contacting NGO and/or SGA if you want to get their views?
Pernille
a gamekeeper suggested to me that I should try and post the link here, and I have gotten some replies. So very happy with that.
cubix
Come back and post the results of your research when you are finished plus your data and any conclusions/suggestions you make on the back of it. That way people will see for themselves, they're a prickly bunch on here, suspicious of 'outsiders' in case you are here to take our guns away. Pernille
I post a summary for anyone interested, and I will give a link to the whole report, good idea. It should be available in October.
