The gears around the wheel would make the mower drive spin at speed compared to the speed of the horse walking. Greenhunter Posted August 6, 2009 Report Share Posted August 6, 2009 Could have done with a different angle of the central bits but from what I can see it could be either for earthing potatoes up or weeding between rows of turnips, kale, cabbage, etc Is there a seat and a couple of foot holds? Its obviously got a differential gearing on the drive shaft so it could go round corners. Not that that helps much It was made to carry the operator and would have definitely been horse-drawn. It could even be a grass mower when I come to think of it. My Grandfather had something similar I recall.
