mayfly36
Guys, i have an 8 week old benelli, cleaned and put away everytime, but this time put in the sleeve, sleeve must have been sligthly damp and now barrel rusty in places, not a happy bunny AT ALL. So now its time to prevent this and stop this in its tracks. Any ideas.
steve_b_wales
Get a cloth soaked with WD 40 and rub the barrels. It's probably only surface rust, and hasn't eaten into the barrels. When I put my guns away, I always wipe them with WD40. There are many good products out there to help prevent rust etc.
mayfly36
Surface rust alright, need to stop it now, brand new gun, never had a problem like this even with a piece off angle iron i was shooting with for 15 odd years. Cant believe it. GUTTED.
Cosd
Feel for you mate, I did exactly the same thing, except mine was left in the cabinet in the sleeve for two weeks before I took it out for a clean one day! I was/am gutted. I did manage to get the surface rust off by using a VERY fine rubbing pad my friend got me from his work where they repair cars. I used this with some oil to make it even less abrasive; This got all the rust off without damaging the barrel blue, but wherever there was a rust spot (almost all over both barrels) the blueing has gone also. So silver spots all over! I keep a sachet of (I think it's called VP90) in the cabinet now which is to prevent rust (too little too late!!) and wipe the barrels down with oil after every use. The rust has not reapeared , but neither has the blueing
Beardo
as per above, and remember - never ever store your gun in it's field sleeve!
Harnser
If you carnt get the surface rust off then i am afraid its a re bluing of the barrells job . Costs about 75 jim . Harnser .
mayfly36
Gonna keep an eye on it over the 6 months and see how it goes, oiled every time from now on, other than that it has to be blued as the barrel for it was priced at £500 plus the vat. a third of the price of the gun. jinxy72
i use the napier lube and cleaner all in one .. contains napiers vp90 rust protector and leaves a very fine film on the gun but i wouldnt have thought a benelli would/should rust so easily
mayfly36
My thoughts entirely. I have sent an email to benelli Italy requesting an answer. This is their warranty... "Benelli will, at its option, repair or replace, without charge, any Benelli firearm that fails due to a defect in materials or workmanship. Parts and labor are included. Repairs are warranted for the duration of the original warranty. If Benelli replaces a firearm under this warranty, you will receive a new five-year warranty. Benelli will return replacement firearms to you freight prepaid." Now i know theyre gonna deny everthing, but whos so say their wasnt a defect in the way the barrel was prepared. I was told by supplier in the uk it rusted because it was a hot gun put into the slip, which IS B---S---T and this led it to rust, etc etc etc the gun was freezing, hadn't shot a bird a good hour before packed up.. Gun was cleaned inside and out before being put into the slip. But why was it the barrel was the only thing to rust when all other metal components as well as the cartridge holder, the breach casing and all with the same finish on the semi were all totally unaffected. This will be one off the questions i will be putting to whoever answer my email by benelli.it. I'm coming to the conclusion that its a case off pass the buck and trying to say it was my own fault. Not a happy chappy. I will take this as fa as i can possibly go with the maker mentioning that it snot a very good advertisement for benelli. While i was at the dealer who sold me the gun, he showed me a benelli supersport he had for sale on the rack, a 1 year old gun, not a mark on it. So it will be interesting to say the least where it will all come too. Edited August 6, 2009 by mayfly36

jinxy72
see what they say and take it from there .... but if what the importer was saying was true ( and we all know it isnt ) then all mine should have rust ... and none has !! .. if ive been fowling or rough shooting then more often than not ( especially if im very cold and wet ) i will leave the cleaning until i get home ok so they do get a quick wipe with a vp90 cloth but it aint a proper clean ..... ..... and he doesnt know u didnt wipe it over with a napier vp90 cloth BEFORE u put it away ... cos u always do this dont u
Cushat
You ain't got a hope of a warranty claim for rust. You put it away in a wet sleeve - simple as. Learn by your mistakes and move on.
Guest
I clean my gun inside and out with some browning liege spray cleaner and keep it in a silicon gun sock in the cabinet along with some big silica sachets like the ones that come in shoe boxes, only really big!
