jonboy1
it is with great sadness that i have to find a home for my two jack russells, due to my wife developing an allergy to dogs. They are both very loving and loyal, one of them is an excellant hunter that will flush game and retrieve, the other is more of a home dog but also enjoys the hunt (and a bit deaf but you'd never know, he sticks to you like glue when out in the field). They are both 5 years old and very good looking dogs, not like that little fat thing on 'the rat pack'. If any body is interested or knows somebody that may be interested, please pm me and i will give you my phone number, cheers jon

Guinea Fowl
I don`t know what allergy it is, but in most cases the best remedy is just to keep on playing with the pups. Your system will get immune to the allergy. I had two friends with an allergy, one with dogs and the other with cats, the doc just gave them something for the itching and told them to go and cuddle up with their pets, thew weeks later and allergy gone, hope it helps

I'd say there was more to it than the allergy - considering they are now 5 years old!!!!
dazza
If they have been with you for five years they will have trouble adapting to a new home. If they have been loyal to you for so long you should explore every alternative before getting rid off them. Can they not be kennelled outside? Why the sudden allergy? If they have been loyal to you for so long you should explore every alternative before getting rid off them. Can they not be kennelled outside? Why the sudden allergy? Thanks for your concerns , but do seriously think we have not explored every alternative before deciding to try and re-home them. The dogs are kennelled outside and have been since they were very young. unfortunately i work very long hours and sometimes have to work away from home which means my wife is their main source of human contact. The allergy she has developed is not a 'sudden' allergy, she has suffered with it for nearly a year. If she touches them she gets an itchy rash (not just our dogs , any dog) she has sneezing fits that can last for hours and a constant running nose. She has been to allergy specialists with no good results, and they have told her that these allergies can start at any time in life for no apparant reason. It is not just dogs it also wheat, cows milk and various other foodstuffs which ase easier to stay away from. As i said, if you ase interested in the dogs or know any body who may be, please pm me. This decision has not been made lightly, believe me!

jonboy1
what they like with other dogs ? do you have any pics ? Can get some pics posted when i get home, am at work at the moment using my mobile internet. With regard to other dogs, they are fine with bitches, but not so good with dogs. Strangely enough if a male dog comes to our house and is introduced to them, after a bit of staring out and raised hackles they are ok, but in the street if being walked not so good, probably because i have only really exercised them on my shooting land where they rarely meet other dogs. jonboy1
It would be better to have them PTS. That has got to be the most pathetic post i have read on this forum, if you've got nothing constructive to add to my request, kindly wind your neck in and don't comment anymore on the subject. Why on earth would you put to sleep two healthy dogs if loving homes could be found? If loving homes cannot be found then the dogs will stay with us. Dogs are not like people, they may pine for a while when re homed, but when shown love and affection and food they adapt very quickly, i have friends who have re homed dogs that have come from good homes and they are perfectly happy! Jeez, i can't believe you posted that comment!

I've had my lab for five years and I love him to bits. If I had to get rid of him I'd rather have him PTS. I couldn't sleep at night thinking about where he was and what they might be doing to him. That's just my opinion and I'm sorry if it offends anyone.

That much doggie love just aint healthy, and for your information, yes the allergy is very bad, but we would not even consider having them put to sleep.! It's a good job dogs can't talk, cos if you were ever in the same position as me i think your dog might have a few things to say to you before you killed it. Mungler
Our cocker was 18 months old and from another home when we got her (breeder wanted to keep her and then changed his mind because she developed an over bite). There were a couple of issues in the first few months but we are now nearly a year on and she is the most loving protective pet - indeed, I original got her to work her, but I fear that has gone south with the wife and kids ruining her. Put her to sleep? Never. Not a chance. As for allergy, I sympathise. I was round a friends house a couple of weeks ago and they have Persian Cats. Anyway, I leave that night wheezing and with itchy eyes but think nothing of it. Next day I wake with a banging headache - a full on 100% pounder which won't go away for 5 days until I see the doctor (first time in a year). He says allergic reaction, I think he's wrong and it has to be more serious for the pain I was in and the amount of Nurofen I had been popping, but 2 days on steroids and yes the pounding headache I had for a week gets shifted. So, allergys are not just limited to the sniffles. It's a toughy.
jonboy1
It certainly is a toughy mung, and thanks to you and some of the other lads for the supportive posts, cheers jon
