BlaserF3
On this forum I read about people buying new guns and shooting them for the first time and having problems with them. I am just curious and wonder if the new semi's are given a thorough clean first to remove the protective oil and grease before firing a shot through them. tim123
Not had any problems with my ruger, put 500 rounds through it. Just give it a good clean after a few hundred.

I presume the former. My Benelli M2 came smothered in a very sticky grease. That all got cleaned off before I fired a shot, and I never had a single stoppage. BlaserF3
I should have said shotguns. But it could apply to rifles as well. I think the problem is that new shooters do not think about cleaning the preservative grease and oil off the gun and then wonder why it does not function as intended. Baldrick
I used only the lightest grade of oil on my semi-autos, to minimise fouling and binding due to trapped dirt.
chrispti
Never initialy cleaned my xtrema2, never once had a stoppage either . . . . . . . . . . . . . ere we go!
stevew
Same here, picked my extrema2 up new, fitted the magazine extension in the gun room the went out to try it on some clays. Still yet to clean it, bit of a faff to get the mag spring back in and you've got to take the extension off for a strip and clean.
BlaserF3
Beretta's seem OK, what about any other make.
mudpatten
With a Benelli you`ll lose nothing by degreasing it and running it in as per the manufacturers instructions.
Vectra26
All good advice above, and remember, some guns do require a good break.
