Bonjour

Im now starting to look at getting my 1st shotgun,im looking around at about 400 quid for a semi auto. Mainly be using it for crows and pigeons and have been adviced by the firearms department to get some experiance on the clays.

So what can i get for this sort of money and what ammo is good? Would i need chokes?

Any help would be most greatful thanks :D

For 400 quid I would get a Hatsan Escort.

Some don't like them but as long as you keep them clean, check the chokes ect they are a realy good gun.

I say get a new one and thats for the 3 year warranty.

As for a first gun I would recomend an over and under as they are best to learn the safety rules with plus nice and simple to use. A s/h browning medalist mabye?

But if its for pigeons a 3rd shot can be useful.

All shotguns have chokes. I would start with half and quarter or just half in a semi. Some are fixed choke.

To start use these and don't worry about changing them.

use half choke.

use no.6 30-32grms cartridges.

buy a beretta.303 /304/

The whole escort thing falls into two camps,

some love them ,some hate them.

I looked at a stoger 2000 and escort.

i came home with a 391 beretta.

you get what you pay for , and i keep my guns .

so in the long run it will be cheap,as it will last.(i hope)

cheers scott

I have bought new, cheap guns and I have bought second hand quality guns.

In my view, SECOND HAND QUALITY BRANDS WIN EVERY TIME.

I have also done the auto apprenticeship - if you can get into the way of using an O/U, you will have much more versatility of where you can shoot and who you shoot with throughout your shooting "career."

I am not an anti-auto person - I still own one - it is just that I spent quite a while getting away from them when my shooting types and locations expanded.

Hi

Ive owned allsorts, expensive medium price and cheap, I have a brand new Lanber Field o/u., an old Baikal o/u cost me £80.00 from my local gun shop the action is as tight as the day it was made and a Hatsan Escort auto, contrary to all the banter you wont go wrong with the Hatsan Escort, to be truthfull its the gun I use most and I wont sell it, lol + the three year guarantee from Edgar Bros, you cant go wrong.
