But I am your original 1950,s Grammar School boy and I didnt pay too much attention in the Computor studies ( I think Clive Sinclairs calculator was about our limit) Im sure you would all like to see some piccies of my cocker and springer and other shooting exploits so can someone help. ernyha
FM Get a free pic. resizer programme down loaded and it instantly converts your pic to the right size and 'pegs. etc. so that you post it direct from your picture file. I don't understand this rubbish about photo buckets that some keep on about. I am also a grandma schoolboy of the 50's and if i can do it anybody can. badsworth
Fisherman Mike - I had the same problem. If you save the new pics as .gif files they are much smaller and good enough definition for the web. Try that - it worked for me! Browning
Hi Mike, LBs advice is sound as a freebie piece of software. The important bit is the image resolution. 72dpi is ample for very good images on the web. This can be changed using the software that LB recommended, or you can do it on your camera if you're taking photo's specifically to upload to the forum. I would recommend saving them as a JPEG, you'll find that the filesize will be smaller than a GIF.
rupertx
What is the camera ? What format are you using for taking your photographs ? If thew camera is capable you may be using it in RAW and would therefore require a raw converter to view said photos. I generally use either raw then convert to TIFF or use TIFF straight from the camera for maximum file size. Is your camera an Olympus by any chance ? Let me know and i'll assist further if required. old rooster
May be easiest to just set the camera to a lower pixel format when taking the pics, I tend to use jpegs, bmp (bitmap) files are enormous but any of the photo software allows you to resave images in different formats. You are pretty safe using Jpegs on most websites as they are universally accepted, TIF seem to work on some. I'm another of the 50's gang but I quite enjoy tinkering with the images, took a load in the Nerja caves last week while on holiday in Southern Spain, they all came out a bit dark so I just used paint shop pro (free version) to alter the brightness and contrast. If you've just shelled out on an 8 megapixel camera you must be pretty keen on photography so you'll have to learn about it sometime mate ;-)). Don't be afraid totry different things with the camera, as another reply says you may be taking the pics in an unsupportable format for web piccies, I've even taken video on my digital camera by mistake before now.
