My equipment for loading .22-250 is the following:

Classic Lee loader-----------£25

Digital scales-----------------£15

Digital calipers---------------£15

Case trimmer----------------£6

Shell holder for drill---------£8

Rubber mallet----------------£1

Small hammer---------------£1

Chamfer/deburr tool--------£3

Primer pocket tool-----------£3

Steel wool for case cleaning £1

Powder----------------------£40 per tub

Primers---------------------£3 per 100

Bullets-----------------------£18 per 100

Cases (Preferably new)----£depends on quality

That's all I can think of, but I use a cordless drill and the shell holder for: Cleaning cases, case trimming and chamfer/deburr.

IMHO there's a few things you would need to add to the list above..

A decent 3 Die set for starters... >=£50

OAL gauge & Comparator... >=40

Powder funnel and trickler... >=50

Prime tool, cleaner (ultrasonic or media)

A decent 2nd hand "kit" from someone giving up, would probably set you back closer to £250 - £300

If I walked into any of the local gunshops and asked for 300 quid's worth of ANY factory 223.. I'm willing to bet they couldn't sell me any more than 8 boxes (160 rounds) of the same brand.

Yet I know for a fact I can easily obtain, powders, primers and heads.

Accuracy is consistency after all :yes:

that is valid though I would guess if I phoned Stuteleys a week before needing any then Jim would get whatever I wanted in, which actually is worth bearing in mind the problem especially as I usually know a week or two in advance when i'm running low

Give it a try - I did :yes:

The two local shops I phoned, (can't recall if Jim's was one of them) - Would let me know the next time, they we're planning on placing an order for 10,000 rounds of Firearms ammo to replenish their stocks, else it wasn't in their interests to get a "few boxes" in.

i could go and buy factory ammo, but im interested in get into re-loading, but the main reason is i was givin a 12bore lee load all a year or so ago and the feeling you get when you make an amazing shot is made even better when you realise you made that cartridge, would you not agree
