humperdingle
Depends what equipment you want to use and how much you want to spend, mate. Budget (£100) or top (£600+)?
humperdingle
My equipment for loading .22-250 is the following: Classic Lee loader-----------£25 Digital scales-----------------£15 Digital calipers---------------£15 Case trimmer----------------£6 Shell holder for drill---------£8 Rubber mallet----------------£1 Small hammer---------------£1 Chamfer/deburr tool--------£3 Primer pocket tool-----------£3 Steel wool for case cleaning £1 Powder----------------------£40 per tub Primers---------------------£3 per 100 Bullets-----------------------£18 per 100 Cases (Preferably new)----£depends on quality That's all I can think of, but I use a cordless drill and the shell holder for: Cleaning cases, case trimming and chamfer/deburr. hill billy
My Budget is really tight to be honest and i will probably be looking to buy what i can second hand, i don't want to buy to cheap because loading bullets is not something i want to do wrong by buying dodgie stuff if that makes sense
garyb
IMHO there's a few things you would need to add to the list above.. A decent 3 Die set for starters... >=£50 OAL gauge & Comparator... >=40 Powder funnel and trickler... >=50 Prime tool, cleaner (ultrasonic or media) A decent 2nd hand "kit" from someone giving up, would probably set you back closer to £250 - £
Baldrick
Humperdingle, I have several hundred pieces of once-fired Federal .22-250 brass that you can have, if you are willing to cover postage. I have some Remington and Winchester brass too. I just stick to Norma brass myself, hence the surplus of the American stuff.
al4x
stupid question but I take it its worth it to you? £300 buys a lot of factory ammo
Dunkield
£300 buys a lot of factory ammo Yes it does, and yes it did when I bought all mine. Mind you, you do need somewhere to stick it all
garyb
If I walked into any of the local gunshops and asked for 300 quid's worth of ANY factory 223.. I'm willing to bet they couldn't sell me any more than 8 boxes (160 rounds) of the same brand. Yet I know for a fact I can easily obtain, powders, primers and heads. Accuracy is consistency after all
al4x
160 rounds is a fair bit unless you want to start a small war though depends if you use it mostly for foxes or for rabbits
garyb
Just making the point, that in my experience (locally) you simply CAN'T bulk buy a decent amount of factory ammo.. Sure, you can buy a couple of boxes here or there... The next time you return to purchase some more - They won't have it.
al4x
that is valid though I would guess if I phoned Stuteleys a week before needing any then Jim would get whatever I wanted in, which actually is worth bearing in mind the problem especially as I usually know a week or two in advance when i'm running low
Dunkield
If you have a decent shop they get whatever you want but only in quantity, you have more chance of them getting 300 rounds in (for instance) than 100, they have to pay for it to be delivered so it makes more sense to them. al4x
guess it may help if you know them well, but locally apart from them I can imagine its difficult

hill billy
i could go and buy factory ammo, but im interested in get into re-loading, but the main reason is i was givin a 12bore lee load all a year or so ago and the feeling you get when you make an amazing shot is made even better when you realise you made that cartridge, would you not agree
