Topgunners
Saturday was a big let down as there were no flocks of pigeons about anywhere we looked. At 1.00pm I went back home; as I had my grandson's party to go to and help prepare all the games, bouncy castle etc. Sunday I met up with Alan and we went drive-abouts again. We checked all of the stubbles that had not been ploughed or disked and could not find birds in any great numbers. I then decided to pop back to the pea fields that we shot on with GaryB and SS and there were about 60-70 mooching about the fields. I rang up Alan and told him to come and join me as I sat and watched for flight lines. Half an hour later he arrived and we set up in the middle field with 2 magnets, 20 deeks and a couple of "angel spreaders". The birds were coming in in 1's and 2's and dropping in from up high and "grass cutting" from over the far hedge row. We had shot exactly 100 birds when the farmer came down and reminded us that the Sunday night horse owners would be arriving shortly. We had a chat for a while as we picked up and he was amazed that the birds were dropping in over our heads into the pattern. I offered him a try with my Berettta semi-auto but he declined my offer. He laughed as he said we had done enough birds for the day and he didn't want to spook them for a next time. Dave K

Cranfield
A nice session, but its strangely comforting that you are also having problems finding concentrations of birds. At the moment, I have gone from counting cartridges to dead birds, to counting litres of diesel to dead birds.

And I have just had 2 phone calls tonight , saying I have 500 pigeons battering one of my stubble fields today. One I checked on Sunday and another mate saying he was laying down in a field last night; shooting rabbits and watched birds flocking in for 2 hours continuously. AAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!! Looks like an early finish from work tomorrow afternoon. Dave K Edited September 8, 2009 by Topgunners
