When can we expect the birds to start flocking up?

depends on the amount of food that is about. But in some places the birds are starting to flock up already, but I would say that they normally build up around late october november time.

The weather also seems to trigger them building into larger flocks.

Temperature drops and a few frosts have an influence.

I saw two large flocks on saturday while out and sadly very little else was about.

I have been working on a house surrounded by farmland for the last couple of weeks, and to start with all the pigeons were in small groups of maybe 10 to 15 birds feeding on stubble. Now they are mainly in one flock of about 200 and are feeding on a cut meadow, would that be clover possibly? B)

could well be clover or weeds or grass seed or any seed that may be there .

i noticed they are flocking up this weekend when i was out

I dont normally see them flocking till november tho we have some flock before but those are mainly young birds !
