Floating Chamber
I have just repaired a newly-acquired secondhand Mossberg 500 for a relative. It was in a sorry state! The firing pin was broken in the middle. An incorrect firing pin spring was fitted, the left-hand extractor was missing and the retaining pin for this had broken off in the breech block. Also, the plastic trigger plate had sheared in two about one inch from the rear. This required some nifty drilling and fixing with three long fine-threaded setpins. The lock lever was bent and not descending when the slide went forward. The receiver cheek needed filing. If anyone has any problems like the above, please pm me and I can advise. The parts needed were rushed to me by Cheryl and Vic Havlin (a great couple!) in the States and cheap as chips. (The parts that is!!!) Floating Chamber
Hold on: These are the pics I sent to Vic. From these views he identified the problem parts and they were sent off within the hour! I'll have to get the gun back to show you the trigger plate repair. utectok
was it hard to dissemble ann reassemble. My beretta can be a fiddle springs pinging out and all!
Floating Chamber
No, not really. It's simple as long as you know the basics about slide (pump) actions. I have worked on autos; Berettas, Winchesters and Remingtons. I find the Winchester Model 50 the easiest. The Remington 1100, (my main shooting tool) is the most complicated - but it gets easier once you've worked on a few.
Ozzy Fudd
nice one  wonder wot sort of treatment it took to get the gun in that state though
throdgrain
The Mossberg is quite easy to disassemble - Click  but the Remington 870 is so easy you can do it blindfold Click again
Floating Chamber
True, but when the trigger mechanism flew apart, I hadn't much to go on! The gun had been abused and repairs had been effected by some well-meaning but inept person. (PC correct!) A few years ago, I bought Bob Dunlap's DVD on the Remy 1100. A good investment! He takes EVERYTHING apart. I wondered why he had so many plasters on his fingers in the film; and I found out! There are some components in there that wear to razor sharpness! I believe Bob does one on the Mossy 500, too. FC Edited September 19, 2009 by Floating Chamber

The first time I cleaned a Remy I didnt know I'd cut my finger untill the second pass Took out my finger to look on the muck that I was removing with some WD 40 only to see two clean cut lines through the cloth, and on removal of the cloth found two identical lines down my finger Well done FC a new lease of life for the oldun Paladin
