Lloyd90
Skye is coming on well, does a few retrieves with toys just playing and sits and doesn't pull on her lead Then she spots another dog everything goes to hell. She pulls like mad, forgets her toys as there no more an interest and just wants to run off to the other dog Is this normal for a pup and will she grow out of it ? She's bloomin dog mad lol

J@mes
Ours is the same mate....especially bigger dogs, she loves trying to jump all over them (with the owners permission of course) She also ****** herself as soon as a stranger strokes her. Quite annoying as she did it in the car this morning!
jasper3
believe me i get the same..he wants to jump up at people ...I really need to stop this ..as if he was to jump up and hurt an OAP or a kid.... what I'm trying to do is ...as soon as we approach someone i will make him sit..then i will get down and hold the lead against his back with my hand on the floor so he cant jump up ... with the other hand ,i am giving him the sit sign...... I will even ignore the other person until i know he is sat still....its definatly getting better.... john
rickyspringer
all general obedience work, its good for a dog not to scared of other dogs and have good socialisation behind them but I will stop my dog from being over friendly, i think it's a bad habit and the problem needs to be stopped, get the dog to sit as someone has said or if he is pulling to them turn in the other direction, you are the leader not the pup. work on it and don't allow the problem to get worse, otherwise there may be falls in the recall of your dog, it may get into fights because of the habit and generally ignore you. rickyspringer
this needs sorting now mate, you can't have the dog pulling and choking it-self and its an awful habit. remeber she's not fully grown and when she is she will be alot stronger, believe me your shoulder hurts and it doesn't look good when a dog is taking you for a walk. "you need to get a slip lead, raise the lead right up to behind her ears and walk in the middle of a wide open space, there is 2 techniques i would use, 1 would be walking in circles, the dog has nowhere to pull to, starting with small circles and gradually getting bigger, or no.2 would be too to walk with the dog in the heel position, either stop and stand still when the dog pulls or turn 180 degrees in the opposite direction and continue to work, when pulls again turn 180 again and so on." Let us know how it goes and persist with it, regards RS
Raja Clavata
Yep, gotta get on top of the pulling as described. Only let people that you know will correct the dog when she pulls take her for a walk; no point you putting lots of effort in to correct only to have someone else undo all that hard work. Our GSP was mad for other dogs when a small pup but is now a lot better, seems more interested in some than others, pre-empting them with a "leave" (or similar) comand helped for us and he now takes little if any notice of joggers and bicycles when we have him on the lead. Just gotta keep at it, even when it drives ya nuts... ATB Raja
