mayfly36
The amount off times I've asked fellow wildfowlers about Sunday shooting in NI, and each time they comeback with A DIFFERENT ANSWER. Apart from phoning the P.S.N.I FIREARMS DIVISION i thought i would throw this question out to the people on the ground. What is the Law regarding shooting in Northern Ireland on Sunday? Ozzy Fudd
cant shoot any wildlife at all; i used to think that it was ok to shoot rabbits but not birds, but found out recently that its a complete no no, stick to clays or targets

Glensman
I read on the BASC website that you just couldn't shoot birds... Northern Ireland: All wild birds in Northern Ireland are protected on Sundays or on Christmas Day, under the Wildlife Order NI. Ozzy Fudd
ok i had it saved under favourites so didnt have to search, heres the new sept 09 general licence http://www.ni-environment.gov.uk/wildlicen...tpg32009pdf.pdf doesnt mention rabbits, etc, but if anyone is going wildfowling on a sunday they could be in a bit of bother - look at the notes at the bottom also just realised starlings are no longer on the licence, oh well  Edited September 20, 2009 by babbyc1000

Heladoxa
Hello Mayfly. You still have diversity of opinion. Why don't you get in touch with your firearms officer. He's paid to know the law and he's the one that might be calling at your place to take your gun away if you get it wrong/ Bill

mayfly36
NO LEAFLET BC. Either i got it and threw it when i got the permit, or its still here somewhere, suppose i was too excited in getting the bloody thing i never bothered reading it, give the peelers a ring tomorrow. mayfly36
OK here goes. Just off the phone with the "firearms and explosive division Castle buildings". Their is nothing in the regulations to stop you FROM shooting on a Sunday, FOR FUR OR FEATHER. And i also phoned a reputable firearms dealer and was told the same thing, all down to a gentleman's agreement, if theirs no problem with the land owner, you can shoot away. Now i was surprised
davie mac
That is a turn up for the books,i sent them an email last night about that, havent got an answer yet,but that is good to know.
Ozzy Fudd
thats definitely strange; look at those general licences i posted, it all says except sunday for them
mayfly36
When i 1st asked the question, i was told he had never come across this before, he came back about 2 minutes later and this is when he told me just what ive posted, SO WHO IS RIGHT??? IT LOOKS LIKE IT COMES DOWN TO THE LAND OWNER, AS THEIR IS DEFINITELY NO LAW PROHIBITING YOU FROM SHOOTING ON SUNDAYS, ACCORDING TO THE FIREARMS LICENSING IN C buildings. Glensman
Na goin on that wildlife order thing I think you still can't shoot birds on a sunday... I think I'll keep Sundays for the rabbits/clays/foxing and if the odd crow lands in front of a rabbit as I shoot then it's not really my fault... BTW: I still have that leaflet, nothing about sundays on it. Edited September 21, 2009 by Glensman
