The amount off times I've asked fellow wildfowlers about Sunday shooting in NI, and each time they comeback with A DIFFERENT ANSWER. Apart from phoning the P.S.N.I FIREARMS DIVISION i thought i would throw this question out to the people on the ground. What is the Law regarding shooting in Northern Ireland on Sunday?

doesnt mention rabbits, etc, but if anyone is going wildfowling on a sunday they could be in a bit of bother - look at the notes at the bottom

also just realised starlings are no longer on the licence, oh well

Hello Mayfly.

You still have diversity of opinion. Why don't you get in touch with your firearms officer. He's paid to know the law and he's the one that might be calling at your place to take your gun away if you get it wrong/

Bill

Bill mate, looks like this is the route i'll have to go down. Im sure this will run for a while.

Well I should be movin home to Aontroim in about 2 weeks, so we'll aim for mid-october for the bunnies... the meat's a bit better then- I'm plannin on cooking most of what I shoot this Winter.

As regards the Sunday thing, I think your grand as long as it isn't birds... I wont be stopping shooting on Sunday's anyway!

thats a great way to keep hold of your guns isnt it

simple answer is ring the cops and find out, though they normally issue you with a leaflet with your licence, advising of seasons, etc, might be on it. i used to think it was only birds but read a few months back (cant remember where) that its everything, but it could have been wrong

OK here goes. Just off the phone with the "firearms and explosive division Castle buildings". Their is nothing in the regulations to stop you FROM shooting on a Sunday, FOR FUR OR FEATHER. And i also phoned a reputable firearms dealer and was told the same thing, all down to a gentleman's agreement, if theirs no problem with the land owner, you can shoot away. Now i was surprised

When i 1st asked the question, i was told he had never come across this before, he came back about 2 minutes later and this is when he told me just what ive posted, SO WHO IS RIGHT?:D?? IT LOOKS LIKE IT COMES DOWN TO THE LAND OWNER, AS THEIR IS DEFINITELY NO LAW PROHIBITING YOU FROM SHOOTING ON SUNDAYS, ACCORDING TO THE FIREARMS LICENSING IN C buildings.

Na goin on that wildlife order thing I think you still can't shoot birds on a sunday... I think I'll keep Sundays for the rabbits/clays/foxing and if the odd crow lands in front of a rabbit as I shoot then it's not really my fault...

BTW: I still have that leaflet, nothing about sundays on it.

Dear Sir

This is covered by bye laws. You would need to contact your local council office regarding this matter.
