  1. Skid steering, cost a fortune in tyres. Wonder how many gallons to the mile it does!
  2. http://home.freeuk.com/rules4shooting/skeetrules.htm Says the clays must pass within 45 cm of the crossing point which means a radius I assume so the hoop is 900 mm or 90 cm in diameter. ( pretty close to the 3 foot for the other disciplines ). The crossing point is 4.57m above the ground so you need a post 4120 mm high with a 900 mm hoop sticky taped edge on to the top of it! If both clays fly through that hoop and the springs throw them 50 to 52m you are sorted. Of course you could get really technical and start to ask what the definition of 'within 45cm of the crossing point'. Is that measured to the centre of the clay? To the inner edge, the outer edge? These terms are not defined in the CPSA rules which is an ommision that I find surprising. If you are using a 900mm hoop then you are saying that the entire clay must be within 450mm of the crossing point. If you measure to the centre of the clay then strictly speaking the hoop should be 450mm plus half the diameter of a standard clay so another 55mm. So the hoop could be interpreted as being 900mm, 955mm or 1010 mm in diameter! One hopes that the CPSA will add a definition of the hoop to the rules at some point! Northall has just got their clay layout working again and the clays cross so close to each other that simultaneous breaks and collisions are common!
  3. Been at this game for about 14 months and my scores started to head south about 4 or 5 months in.look at http://clayshoot.blogspot.co.uk/A coaching session and an adjustable comb and they took a really good bounce in the right direction. Will probably make B classification officially next rotation and get bumped to A in my club. Gun fit and a bit of coaching is invaluable.

  5. After 300 targets the CPSA will give you a temporary classification. All the info us on their site.
  6. Scores are going backwards at the moment! GD and the likes have no worries! :)
  7. Just over 10500 cartridges shot since February 7th when I bought my first gun. 1750 of those in registered shoots.
  8. Southdown is closer but the mile and a half up the access track is unkind to most family cars. Northall is open Wednesdays and alternate Fridays ( this friday ) and Saturdays ( saturday 12th ) and is a bit more relaxed and not quite so 'corporate'. If he gets involved with the sport he has Southdown, Northall, Hickstead, Horne, Bisley and a few strawbalers all within about 20 miles or so! If your mate wants to visit Northall I'd be happy to introduce him to the ground on Saturday 12th. I believe an hour including clays, gun, cartridges and tuition is £74.
  9. I seem to be dragging myself out of a dip the same as you. Since starting in January my scores steadily improved and then bang! A big slump and major correction. Now slowly on the up again. So much to remember from the lessons and gun fitting. Mount, process, plan, grip, stop looking at the barrels, keep the gun moving etc etc etc. One thing I have noticed is that my lead picture seems to have changed drastically and I need to get way out in front of them. 10. Shot a 100 comp in the morning and 100 on another format in the afternoon on Sunday at the same ground. I've also shot the same number at one ground and then driven to another ground to do the same. A 60 bird club shoot on Saturday after an 80 practice on Friday afternoon. Thursday evening I shot 100 at a Compaq shoot. Most I've done in a session is 250 but that was only because I'd only got that many with me and the wife had let me out to play with no curfew. It's also why I only put 250 into the car at any one time! Seriously considering taking my foot off the pedal! I have put 8500 rounds through my gun since starting shooting at the beginning of the year and entered 10 registered comps in 3 disciplines. Sporting, FITASC and Sportrap. at the moment I only hit 50% of the targets thrown. Anyone who says that this doesn't become addictive doesn't know what they are talking about! 11. http://www.petersfieldgunclub.co.uk/control/main looks like your closest club. The bug bit deep for me and I find myself driving all over Southern England to shoot but most shoots are within 30 minutes or so. I've actually made quite a few new friends since starting earlier this year just by bumping in to the same crowd a few times.
  12. It's an old thread but I have just read this over a cup of Monday morning coffee. I will have to clean the ipad as I was laughing so much I've sputtered coffee everywhere. Made my day! :)
  13. I found a website for chalk pits but I think it's just a test site and they say they don't publicise because they are so small. There is a similar club in my local town, Crowborough, just a local shoot every two weeks. Don't want too many people because it's a small site. Welcome, and friendly, if you just pitch up but not recruiting new people.q
  14. I bought a Tempio, not really a sporting gun but it is a great piece of work. It feels perfectly balanced and I love shooting with it.
