Looking through the binoculars I spied aprox 60 / 70 pigeon lift off the corners of a wheat field. I jumped in the van and drove to the field in question, as I walked toward the area about the same amount of pigeon fled from the tree's . On close inspection of the field there was an area of flattened wheat approximately the size of one of those kids trampolines you see in gardens. There didn't seem to be defined flight line but pigeon we're flitting around in some numbers in the general area. I have a magnet, turbo flapper, FUD's and some shell decoys can anyone offer some advice on the best way to approach this scenario ? JDog Posted July 5, 2014 Report Share Posted July 5, 2014 Take all of your kit, park up some distance away and sit and watch after you have pushed the birds out of the flattened patch. motty Posted July 5, 2014 Report Share Posted July 5, 2014 For me, the first thing I would consider is how easy it would be to pick the birds. If I didn't think I could pick most of what I shot, I simply wouldn't bother. There are pigeons being attracted by the fallen wheat, so your destination is clear enough. In those kind of situations I find that a magnet can be all you need to get the pigeons close enough. You can always add a few dead birds on cradles once you've downed a few. If I was going to start with any decoys at all, I would probably just lay a few shells on the wheat as high as possible. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Cookie69 Posted July 5, 2014 Author Report Share Posted July 5, 2014 Thanks guys The flattened area is just off some tram lines and quite close to quite a wide grass strip that boarders the field. pigeon controller Posted July 6, 2014 Report Share Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) I would try to decoy the laid area fill it with too many decoys and a magnet and position myself in the hedge and shoot them coming to the trees . This will allow you to pick up most of the shot birds. As JDog states find the flight line in and intercept themto the field or the trees. Good luck and let us know.
