10gaugewannabee Posted July 21, 2015 Author Report Share Posted July 21, 2015 This isn't a bad place to ask a few questions there are a few professionals on here myself included so ask away ok so here goes i am looking to get someone to do the replacement metal work on the van and i want it done prpoperly, i went to one so called expert how basically welded a washing mashine side to the top of the sills and tried to charge me for it. any way as i find a decent body work garage as and when funds allow i want to sort out all the rusty bits. now i live in brum but for a decent body shop i am very willing to travel to them. so after the metal work is done, its rusty its a transit van , lol i want to sort as much or the rest of the work my self. so the underneth once they have finished welding wants undersealing, thi i can do and have done but before that i want to go round some how and clean up the rusty spots and the paint them. so tools i have and own now are wire wheels and flap disksk and a small air compressor and a small plastic shot pot. so the cleaning of metal is within my skill set and as i am a muppet i can use more time to do so after that cleaning i want to start the painting to protect it so where i am using upol zinc rich primer spray as i have only needed one can. to do the underside i want several buckets so i want someone to say a name or trade can of paint product i need to buy , i know i need some form of "phossi spray paint" but dont understand it after that what to use as build up coats that wont effect the welding works planned or the welding happening once thats done we are away with the rest of the van sorting out as many dents and spots as i can building up to a decent layer of paint. we have not decided if we want to wrap the van with a design in which case i go one way or we respray the van with water based two pack to get a decent finsh which is another the van is a mk6 transit and i am on the tranist form but due to the massive amount of aggorgant trolls on there i only now use it to read only and have stopped posting on it Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Personally I'd not use under seal, it tends to sit on the surface of any rust, doesn't soak or creep its way into joints and although it looks good it can act like a moisture trap and make things much worse Waxoyl mixed with some fresh engine oil (not used) and a touch of schultz to colour this mix is great, it'll stay wet for a good few years and creep, only downside is you may have to replenish the areas that get washed by action of the wheels on wet roads Apply with a pressure gun and long hose set to get all the inside of hollow sections A pressure gun is not a schultz gun Good luck!
