i too have come across some old carts, i dont really know how old,

they are baikal carts, No6's 70mm and have Record writen across them, on the back it says baikal and made in ussr, and the primer has NG writen on it

oh yeh, and the crimp seems to be sealed using some kind of hot stamp to melt the corner of the crimps together

any ideas how old these are

(unfortuantly you cant see the NG on the primer in the pics)

and the strange crimp

Must be the old way of doing it mine are the same "melted crimp"

These came from my ex fartherinlaw , he died the otherday and the ex was clearin his place out and found them

Now i know he didnt shoot for at least 20 years so these are 70's or very early 80's

So not mega old

I'd say your baikals are about the same age

Plastic cases have been around for at least 25 years!!

How old do you want them to be?!!

PP

Nearly 45 years, I reckon!

WAGBI showed off some plastic Eley Maximum at the Game Fair once. Can't remember when, but the first Game Fair I went to was 1969. No, it was 1968 at Stirling!

I used to use baikals with the 1st gun i bought , got 500 with my first baikal shotgun i bought free 20 years ago, the do kick and if you open one up you will find a complete mix of shot inside, anything from 8's to 3's distorted and half shot and the odd bits of ex missile bolts as well

Had a work day recently at my shooting ground. Couldn't get to the high branches of a tree to clear a path for the clay trap so I used some old AAA cartridges I had and did some 'pruning' from the ground. :o

Did the job well!

Rob.

I have just been on Yahoo, they have a very interesting history of Remington including plastic Carts 1660, was the date of introduction.

Yahoo:- " Remington cartridge history."

Best regards,

Feather.
