  1. They used to use them in america a lot, dont know if thats the case now, i think it was a lot of US shooters reloaded and wanted the cases which were deemed to belong to the range if they hit the floor, thats what i have been led to believe anyway, never seen one over here though, i guess its cos no one wants the emptys mikee
  2. I had a look round these 2 new patches today, one is all winter wheat and plough so not much use til the spring drilling, the other is about 2 miles away and all rape, 10 field in a clump, almost 600 acres with hardly a tree or hedge, this will take some figuring out but plenty of pigeons moving around it though, this could be time to buy some more nets and set up in the middle under a flight line if i can spot one. mikee
  3. thanks guys, george is a looker too, how old? mine is 9 months mikee

  6. i have been reading this thread and have been thinking about approaching the owners of my permissions about rifle shooting as i fancy a .17hmr for rabbits crows etc, what is the chance of getting an open ticket straight off, ive got about 6000 acres locally and other bits around and about totaling about another 1000 or wouldnt i need an open ticket mikee
  7. upwards of i should think 90% of shooters cant be wrong, get a labrador labs are born half trained, spaniels die half trained  mikee
  8. This for all you guys that wanted to go stalking but didnt think your car was big enough to get a 150lb beast into the end result of hitting a dear in a BMW Z4 at 140mph mikee
  9. david its a good big bit of land and it connects 2 other permissions i have one is 3000 acres and the other is about 250, and all within about 5 minutes of home, mikee
  10. ok found the answer 1570 acres, cheers mikee
  11. had a bit of luck today and got 2 new pieces of pigeon shooting land, i was given 2 maps showing the fields and their sizes but they were in hectares 227 & 426, does anybody know what the conversion to acres is please?? the larges field is 65.2h mikee
  12. reloading for what you intend is really a waste of time and money, there are hundred of different 12 bore loads available that are all about as good as each other, the only real benefit for home loaders is non toxic shot for wildfowling because of the government restictions on factory loaded ammo velocities which dont apply to the home loader as long as he doesnt sell his loads, you would be much better of buying your pigeon shells and using the saved time on reccy trips, If you are adamant that you want to reload speak to Ian at clay and game, he'll put you right http://www.claygame.co.uk/ mikee

  16. you must remember that the choking restictions were worked out back in the days before plastic wad carts, which supposedly throw about 1/4 choke tighter than fiber wad mikee
  17. all the pheasants, partridge, duck, geese and rabbits are prepared and put in my freezer along with as many pigeons as i need the remainder of the pigeons go to the game dealer, game meat is far nicer and cheaper than intensively reared meat keep as much as you can mikee

  19. ive oiled one or two stocks and always remove the old finish with nitromores gel, then sanded with finer and finer wet and dry, to get a really smooth finish you need to raise the grain by dampening the surface with water and then gently drying, i hold mine over the cooker hob and rotate, the tiny fibers will stand up and can be removed with very fine dry wet and dry paper you will need to repeat this until all the micro fibers are gone then you can apply your chosen oil finish mikee
  20. HARVEYKEITEL22 where south of norwich, i'm in pulham market, there's loads on the rape around here but you need to be out early to do any good..mikee
