  1. I see where you are coming from MM. To be honest, the 410 wasnt really bought for busting clays, it was more practising being safe with a gun, shouldering it, swinging it etc. He did all 3 very well so time to progress to a larger gun that will bust clays and hit a few birds on the farm and to keep him interested. I havent really thought about buying him a typical weighing 12g as i 'assumed' he couldnt use it comfortably, but thats just me assuming. I think you could be right, and it will be worth taking him over the farm at the weekend with the Browning 525 to see how he fairs. I would prefer to buy him a 12g as its cheaper to run than the 20g and a bit more versatile. I will let him try my shotgun, with the view that maybe he if its too heavy, then a lightweight 12g is the way forward and not a 20g. Thanks for the thought MM, much appreciated. BB
  2. Great repsonse everyone - thank you. Some great advice. We are going to the gun shop Saturday to see what they have in his budget, although i can feel somehow i may be contributing too !! Dont tell the wife . . . . . . All the best and thanks again. BB
  3. Hi My son will be 14 next month and is looking to buy a 2nd hand shotgun. He has used a Baikal 410 for a few years but is now looking for a either a 12g or 20g. Not had much experience myself with a 20g so hoping for some advice there. I have 12g Browning 525 which although he can mount in his shoulder, he finds heavy and can only mount it for 10-20 seconds comfortably. Is there a lightweight 12g that anyone can recommend ? Are 20g shotguns lighter generally ? Many thanks BB (& Son !)
  4. Few years ago i bought a Deben double battery pack for lamping ( the type that sits on a waist belt). Recently the batteries were only lasting approx 45 mins. If i remember correctly when i bought the set up (2nd hand at that time) it would last 3-4 hours. Ive been onto fleabay and picked up 2 brand new batteries (12v 7.2a) and charged them up. Used them the first night and got 1.5 hours of useable power at 100-150 yards. Went out last night and got around the same, maybe a little more. My questions are - Will the batteries hold more charge after maybe 4-6 times of charging from completely flat ? Do you think there is a quality difference between the Deben batteries which are called diamec or similar and the new ones i bought are called Ritar - on fleabay for £14.50 each if anyone needs some !! Many thanks BB
  5. Yes, free cards but you have to pay £3-£4 delivery. Ive used them lots of times now. Paypal is very safe. BB
  6. Hi The least permission i got was by going online to Vistaprint - print 250 free biz cards saying - vermin control, fully insured and experienced shooter etc. I then placed one on a tractor windscreen (obviously while it was parked up !!). He called me next day and gave me 1000 acres ! I always keep some cards in my wallet so i can give them to farmers i might see whilst cycling around the country lanes. Worth trying a mix of things. Good luck BB

  9. Hi guys, My SGC is expiring in next 10 weeks so D&C sent me a gentle reminder to renew. My FAC is only 2 years old, so i thouhgt i would go for Coterminous this time around. Ive filled in all the forms but do i read it correctly when it asks for the landowner to give signed permission again ? Even though it was doen 2 years ago and a land inspection carried out ? Also, do i need 2 lots of 2 referees again ? Many thanks BB

  20. Nice set up. What rifle is it ? BB
  21. Well done Frenchie. If 60 yds isnt a safe head shot - I dont know what is ? If someone is not confident at that range with a 243 then he/she shouldnt be shooting. The chances of a 243 round 'not' killing a fox at that range in the head is extremly low. Theres no guarantee a boiler room shot is 100% kill either. Good shot I say. BB
  22. I agree. They do seem to all know each other. I had it last year after gaining some new permission (well 300 acres !) Within days of obtaining the land, the adjoining land owner called his mate (who gave me the permission) to ask if i could go onto his land too, so gained another 40 acres. He then had another farmenr friend with 15 acres 5 miles away, and whislt not being much land, its great for ferretting and full of banks. BB
  23. Nice. I much prefer blonde birds anyway ! BB
