  1. Hi All

I am thinking of getting my 12 year old son into shooting as he seems interested so thought I would get him an air rifle to use when I am with him

the thing is he is left handed and when I told him to hold my gun he put it straight up to his left shoulder I then asked him to try it on his right shoulder and he said it did not feel right. I then did the test to see which is his dominant eye and it is his left eye so it all fits into place that he needs either a left handed or ambidextrous stock

so my question is what would be the best ambidextrous air rifle to get him I would like it to be multi-shot and pre charged was thinking of a decent quality 2nd hand unit, I have looked at the BSA Ultra Multishot as its nice and light and he is only small for his age and he said my rimfire was heavy to hold

    your recommendations please

    thanks shawn

  2. Hi All

I have had my FAC & SGC now for 10 years just renewing it now, I have had the same guns on their since I first got my certs and have forgot how it all works

on my FAC cert I have a 22LR rimfire open cert now if I wanted to buy a FAC rated air rifle what do I need to do, do I go to the shop buy it and add it onto my cert or do I need to contact the firearms licensing to get permission to buy a FAC rated air rifle

Also if I want to get a .223 for foxing I presume I need to get permission of the firearms people for this as its going up in calibre am I correct in this, if not could someone please put me right

    cheers shawn

  4. Hi All

My shooting buddy moved away about 2 years ago and I have not really been doing much shooting just the odd walk about in the day time

I have a small permission of about 150 acres which is just rabbits and foxes its just grasslands

I am after someone who has some land so we could alternate with each other and go lamping together

I am 44 years old and own my own successful business for the last 15 years I am a family man married for 23 years with 2 kids 12 and 16 so that gives you an idea of who I am

I will be looking at shooting once a week or less as family life is important to me

Please send me a pm if you think we may suit each other, please no Rambo style folk just sensible people with some experience and similar interest in shooting as I have

oh forgot to say I use either shotgun or a sako varmint 22lr rifle and am going to be applying for my .223

    cheers

  5. Hi All

I passed my HGV class one 21 years ago and i used it to great lengths driving all over europe as a genaral haulier it was fantastic i was never at home spent loads of weekends on the coast of spain portugal etc etc but then got a normal job as we wanted to start a family and i wanted to see the kids grow up not be away in a truck all the time

My question is i have not used it now for about 7 years and keep meaning to go and do a bit of agency work to keep my hand it and to be honest i miss it a bit

The thing is my mate is taking his class one on friday and he said the instructor has told him he needs to do 35 hrs per year to keep his licence valid and i am now worried my licence may be invalid as i have not driven a HGV for 7 years

i renewed my licence earlier in the year and it came back with all my classes on it so do any of you lot know if i need to do 35 hrs a week just to keep my licence valid or have i got some sort of grand father rights due to passing my HGV before a certain date or something

if anyone knows please reply as i am really stumped by this

    cheers shawn

  6. Shaun,

the size of land does not decide the calibre,(well true to a point if common sense is used) You may find that the land is passed for 22 CF allready so i would apply for one ASAP. :good: You have good reason for asking for a CF so should not be refused as long as FEO is happy you have enough experience.

Incedently has the land got any houses surrounding it ie; housing estates ???

    DOUGY

regards experiance i have had both my shotgun and my rimfire for 7 years now had a restricted ticket for the rimfire for first 5 years now i have an open ticket when i renewed it, should this be enough to get a CF rifle???

regards houses there are no houses on my permission there is a B road running along one side of it then the other 2 sides have small narrow country lanes adjoining them there is just the farm and thats right on the edge of the permission no other buildings on the permission.

  7. hi

thanks for all the replies i think i will wait and get a rifle more suited for foxing would hate to injure an animal even if i did think YES I CAN TAKE IT it could move at the last minute and i may only injure it so would find that hard to live with so will wait i do have some winchester hollow point super sonics but even with their extra power i will gat a bigger gun so to speak

oh i have a sako varmint finfire by the way not a quad

    thanks shawn

  8. Hi All

i have a .22 LR sako rimfire i use for rabbits my question is would you use it to shoot a fox with i have seen quiet a lot of foxes on my permission and have got within 50 yds when lamping but i have never taken a shot at one as not sure the rimfire would do the job and obviously would never want to wound a fox only a clean kill would be good enough

the thing is have any of you ever taken a fox with a rimfire and if so how head shot, heart shot etc etc or is the gun just not upto the job thought about getting a 223 or something but i only have about 200 acres where the foxes are and not sure this would be enough for a 223 or larger caliber rifle

    cheers shawn

  9. if you want a decent good quality tyre thats good on the mud and fairly quiet on the road you will not beat the hankook RF10 they are very very good we sold some to a chap who has got abot 10 nissan navaras he owns a earth moving company he was so pleased with them he has had them fitted to all his 4x4 vehicles that go on and off the muddy sites

if you want something more aggresive go for the hankook RT03

    cheers shawn

  10. Hi All

can anyone recommend a decent scope to use with my sako varmint .22lr rimfire rifle, i currently have a hawkeye 4-12 x 50 on it but it has started to go funny around the edges when you look through it its not circular it has splodges on the edges so must be nearly knackered. i have found this a good scope but wanted to know if there was anything else about, dont want the best on the market but dont like to buy cheap stuff either

    cheers shawn
