I would use a lab to beat with 9/10, easy to keep an eye on pretty steady and don't need much training apparently(as they are born half trained you know) When it comes near the end of a drive and the cover is deadly thick, which dog does it when the keeper yells let the dogs in!! Spaniel!! You wil never beat a spanner for doing the cover but it wouldn't stop me using a lab for general walk up beating!!

best 20g round i have found for pigeons at the right price is Rio 7's 25 grams. Quite punchy but easier on the wallet!

Any one else have to get this done, we have a history of heart trouble in our family, so have to get a blood check every so often, my last count was 4.8 but reckon after the last few days and days to come it will be round the 7 mark!! She is for sale for £500 as to me this is a fair price as i'm looking a quick sale, she has no faults and i would quite happily keep her myself if i had more room. She isn;t top drawer but will put in an honest days work for the average shooting man, I'm not a breeder or pro trainer so not in it for the money. Keith Erlandsons book isn't bad but to be honest invest a few quid and buy Davie Lissets DVD! First DVD i have that will actually show you a dog going wrong and how to correct! Plus i have a dog out of pepper! You won't go far wrong listening to davies advise!!

Springer all day long. I have 2 bitches at present that will hunt all day long in a beating line, my old boy sam is at the end of his working career but i still pick up with him on the drives after lunch. My couisin has a another dog bud who i trained for him that will put in a shift of work that anyone would be proud of. If you are looking an alround hunting/working dog you will not beat a springer! Not as hard to train either as some folk make out!!

Springers, Cockers, Pointers and labs. Plenty of gundog breads out there designed for the job that can be hard enough to train, Why? make it harder on yourself trying to train a hound designed to chase?

I personally hate that statement "Labs are born half trained", do not buy into that mind set! To me it encourages lazy handling and a thought process of getting a dog that doesn't need much work. Yes they are in general steadier than a spaniel, but why settle for something half trained. Take pride in your dog and put the work in, nothing ruins a days shooting more than a ill mannered dog! And on the up side if you have a well schooled dog with you it makes the day so much better!!

Try him on Chudleys greyhound premium or sneyds wonderdog premium and try mixing in some tripe sticks to the bones!

I have just received my P800 tax form in the post today and am not sure what it means. I have received 4 forms dating back to 2006/2007 tax year. All of them show that i have overpaid tax for each year. Now there is no total amount due on any of the forms just an amount for each year. My question is am i due the total of the 4 forms added together or are they calculated into the amount shown as overpaid for year 2009/2010. I'm not too well up on these matters as i had always been PAYE til this year. Your help would be most welcome.

Up till a few years ago i would have said keep a dog, i had a couple of soft dogs that were bitches and when i say soft i mean soft. But now i'm of a different take on it, i have 2 bithces that are both hard hunting and intellingent, all the dogs i had before were hard going but stopping them was a nightmare. Best thing you could do is wait and see maybe what pup is showing a bit of style and has a brain before you sell them! Doesn't matter if it's a bitch or do, when you you get the spaniel for you!

Done a few bogs today that usually hold a few woodcock and nothing, shot 2 snipe and a pheasant of them but no woodcock. Won't get the chance to shoot this spot till christmas again, so no doubt the cold weather ban will be on then! Have to say though it was still very warm, bit more harder weather would help!
