  1. Apologies or that, thought you were talking about full membership rather than associate. Full membership dropped from £90 to £55 and has climbed back to £65.
  2. NRA fees are up on last year, but they had been drastically cut the year before that. Basically they cut too much. On the other hand my clubs fees have remained the same for a couple of years, and that includes the range charges. Reading through the journals they admit that Bisley was ignored in an attempt to help ranges in other areas, this included interest free loans and cash support. They seem to be have admitted that this hasnt worked and are now trying to catchup with maintenance.
  3. Suffering from a dose of insomnia I have just spent a couple of hours reading some of the stuff on th NRA website, including most of last years journals. Having shot at Bisley for a couple of years I had started to ignore the general state of the place, and had come to the conclussion that it was basically it was how it had always been. I had also made up my mind that the NRA was pretty much made up of and run for a bunch of TR shooters, that had stuck their heads in the sand for the past 20 years. The journals include articles by the various "officers" in the organisation, along with the minutes of various meetings. Input is from a range of people including members and non-members. I was quiet supprised how the NRA has admitted its past failings, and appears to be trying to sort them out. I was also supprised how much work they are putting into a variety of rifle shooting and whats left of pistol shooting. They seem to be specifically active on the mess that is the long barreled revolver, in particular the fact that some forces do not allow clubs to own them (only indevidual members). The NRA also appear to be working more with the other organisations, especially in light of the shootings last year. High up on the agenda is the mess that Bisley has been allowed to get into, especially the roads and toilets which are frankly blood horrible. They also seem to be very aware that more young people need to come into the sport, otherwise target shooting will die out. And by pushing a variety of disciplines other than TR they hope to make the sport more friendly to new shooters. A lot of comments at the meetings were concerned with trying to keep target shooting affordable, especially with the cost of ammunition. Anyway, link to the jornals http://www.nra.org.uk/common/asp/general/downloads.asp?site=NRA&category=All Pondering joining as a full member, best way to change an organisation is from the inside. They have made some pretty big mistakes in the past, but tjere appears to be a lot of changes at the top. Hopefully for the better.
  4. havent a clue about the setuo, but Bisley has a clay setup.

    jobs

Hi mate, hope things sort themselves out for you, I should be starting a new job in a few weeks after being made redundant 4 months back. Have to say that I have been supprised at how many jobs ar out there, but you need a good CV to get through to the interviews, so make that your first priority. Agencies are very picky about who they send for interviews, I registered with a load of online agencies, but the best results were through the large online county job websites. For me it was JobsinKent and JobsinSussex If you are a bit stuck with a CV I can send you a copy of my one with a few pointers.
  6. Out of interest, were they steel or lead shot, did they ask?
  7. This chap http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OMEGA-WATCH-CLEAN-SERVICE-FREE-QUALITY-LEATHER-STRAP-/320664863409?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_WatchAccessories_SpareParts_SM&hash=item4aa91d82b1 has had some very good comments on one of the watch forums I frequent. Best bet would be to message hime with an enquiry. I have kept an eye on him on ebay and 600+ positive feedback over many months, + good comments on watch forums I would give him a go. Once my new job sorts itself out I have a couple of watches to send him.
  8. Be wary, even when you get recomendations from friends. A friend I know very nearly lost £20,000 on a currency investment scheme. Unfortunately his mate who appeared to be bit of a investment expert, didnt get out in time and last thing I heard had lost £120,000. Which was more than half of the funds from selling his house. Company had been trading for 6 years, recomended by various experts, but it all went tits up. Its all going to court at some point, I think everybody that lost money was shocked at how little protection they got despite the company having FSA acreditation (or some such scheme). basically all it ment was the books were looked at. Was a big shocked when i heard about it all, asked why they had all the eggs in one basket, reply was they looked like a legitimate organisation, and had been trading for six years. Somehow this made them "like a bank". Then again looking at the current mess even the 200 year old banks cock things up.
  9. have to say, if it was money I would get maybe 2 x £100 bottles. That way you can cover two styles, one persons great expensive whisky tastes terrible to somebody that likes different style.
  10. Welllll had a hectic couple of weeks. Have been out of work since early Nov, had an email on Wednesday, followed by an interview on Thursday, and a job offer on Friday. Have got to have a medical, but luckily thats this Wednesday so Thursday should be celebrate with a few pints.
  11. This things usually are stirred up by neighbours. Best bet is to ask the people that sent you the letter, just explain what you are doing, and they should be able to tell you if your ok. Sometimes just changing the materials can bet he difference between needing permission or not. You might find that the neighbours are claiming your buidling a three storey extension.
  12. Got this from wife Permitted development rights are rights to do certain works to a property without the need for plannng permission. They can include such things as small extensions, erection of ancillary buildings like sheds and greenhouses and the creation of hardstanding. These rights can be removed either when the house is constructed or at a later date when planning permission is granted for other works such as a large extension. The reason to remove these rights is so that future development can be controlled.

    Star gazing

If your only using the tripod for binoculars you dont need to spend a lot on it. But a tripod has multiple uses, both in astronomy and photography, and you can do some interesting astro photography using a standard dslr camera and a tripod. The resason startring with binos is adised is the field of view, makes it easier to learn the sky, theres no point having a telescope if you cant point it in the right direction. My advice to you, is rather than buying any optics, find a local club. My local club has a 22.5" reflector, in an onservatory, several goto setup Meades, a solar telescope, and they charge £15 a year membership.
  14. I moved from the cheaper peltor analog model to sport tacs last years, used them with full bore and shotguns, really happy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peltor-Sport-Tac-Red-Black-Protection-Shooting-/150512859442?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item230b43f932
