    BALLS

Hi This may be a bit boring but I have just spent about an hour brushing those little sticky balls out of my dog. He looked like he had dreadlocks there were that many. Do they serve any purpose ie seeds or something, or are they just annoying b----rds. If any one has any tips on removing them I would be very grateful. If you see a guy muttering around hedge rows with a spray gun in about 20 years time it will be me , gone mad. ANNOYING B____RDS. Cheers Aubs
  2. Hi Just thought I'd drop a note just to say thanks to Hawkeye for putting me on some pigeons up north. I went today a bit later than I should have thanks to our friends at the weather station (forcast rain it was sunny all day) and shot 19 good birds in perfect conditions. Cheers mate Aubs

  7. A mate of mine has one and she's a good all rounder, like a steady springer really. I suppose it's down to the individual dog just like any breed, some will make it some won't. I'd check the parents papers and if you like the dog give it a go. From my experience cross breeds can work just as well as any pedigree some of them better, if the dog is willing to learn and you are willing to train it properly you should be ok. Cheers Aubs.

    4x4 PICK UPS

Thanks for the replies guys it's certainly given me something to think about. I recon I've got about 15 - 20 grand to spend so i can surely get something decent. I thought about the L200 but my mate gets his brand new warrior this week and I want something different. The navara looks nice but i just looked on the link from ernyha and the toyota looks fantastic just a bit worried about the 3L engine a bit of a guzzler I think. Anyhow I'm going to have a look round tommorow so thanks again for the posts Cheers Aubs

    4x4 PICK UPS

Hi My boss has just offered me a load of cash to by a new motor (lucky me). It has to be a commercial vehicle so I thought of a crew cab so I can make a right mess in the back with the dogs and shooting stuff etc but still the front stays clean (no more dog smell in the car, apart from me) Has anyone got one and what do you think of it. Any comments would be grateful good or bad. cheers Aubs
  12. Already there mate. Cheers Aubs
  13. Graphic pictures of a what could have been a nice lamb like that is perfect to show people why fox control is essential. Wish I could have taken a picture of the 300 pheasants ( heads bitten off ) that we lost early season last year from 1 fox. Sick, sick , sick It's third visit to the wood was it's last thank god, I'm not ashamed to say me and the head keeper had a little tear in our eyes picking up the dead birds. All were hatched and reared..... gutted. Cheers Aubs
  14. With eyes like that if the wife to be sees it i've got three dogs, Hope she gets a good WORKING home, Cheers Aubs

  16. On holiday till august ferretmanabu you must have a good job. I'm no expert hawkeye although I have been shooting pigeons for a while I'm still learning and my shooting at times is far from good. I'll keep an eye on the fields down near ferrybridge and up to kirklington and let you guys no about owt going on around there. There is a couple of big rape fields near baldersby st james that will certainly hold a couple of guns and one or two near hillam that weren't growing to good last time I went over that way, plenty of big bare patches just no birds. I will keep in touch. Cheers, Aubs
  17. I'm not thick honest ermm.................... Do you mean by angling the birds towards the machine when it rotates it would appear they are slightly flying side ways ??:( Or do you mean angling the bird ie with the wing nearest the machine dipped down and on the other side of the magnet the outer wing dipped down. And just to complicate things... I can alter the height of the arms on my magnet so given the opportunity(ie on fresh drilling or small crops) do you think putting the arms at different heights would be an idea or is this what you mean. I always try to set the magnet up so it isn't flat ie the birds aren't flying horizontally so perhaps setting the arms at different heights could work?:(?:( What do you think?:( Sorry to be a pain mate I'm just interested, Cheers Aubs
  18. Nice one wigeon I don't think you'll be disappointed. Seems like a good idea doc to get a day together, always good to get a few guns banging away to keep them on the move.If we can catch an area with a few birds about and only a couple of rape fields harvested with a gun in each field we should be laughing. SOUNDS EASY DON'T IT  :(

    £10

Salmon is cheaper now becuase it's farmed, wild salmon is still very expensive in comparison. I went to a pub/restaurant last week and they had locally shot wood pigeon with port wine sauce etc for £14.50. Although this may seem expensive the place had a michelin star and the food , service , situation ... prefect, everything was fantastic, and all produce was from local farms businesess etc. You get what you pay for and although my pocket doesn't stretch this far normally it was well worth the money. Cheers Aubs
  20. Good luck Geordie All the best Cheers Aubs
  21. Hi gary, Forgive me if this is thick but you lost me on tip no4 mate  :( Thanks for the others and the painting tips I'll give these a go. Cheers Aubs
  22. BARGAIN...BARGAIN I must agree with you there doc even though I haven't shot much this year over NPPC land but I haven't been out that much and on the whole it's been a bit **** everywhere. How do you value your shooting ? One day on the partridge-------£200/£300 per day. 10 days on the pigeon----------£95.00@£9.50 per day. I know what I'd rather have. It's good value even if you sit in the hedge bottom and shoot nothing. I'll be joining again this year and hopefully next year it will be well worth the money. You've got to take the rough with the smooth that's what I think Cheers Aubs
  23. I've never done much decoying over beans and I was surprised when reading the letter that the birds aren't bothered over them, but I think ernyha and doc are right they will feed on them when they are harvested, I'll give john a phone and find out what's going on. cheers aubs
  24. Hi I got some info from John this morning but unfortunately no pea list ,It seems most of the farmers have grown beans which apparently pigeons don't bother?? There are still a few fields so I'm going to give john a ring and find out what's happening. I don't like shooting over rape at this time of year you can't take the dog and you can end up loosing a lot of birds, It's ok if there are plenty of bare patches though but i'd sooner go on the peas. It looks like we may have to do some door knocking to shoot over peas this time. cheers, aubs
  25. Hi just wondered If anyone had got the pea list yet? Was going to give Jon a phone but I didn't want to hasssle him in case it was on it's way. Was up near Thirsk the other day and saw a few pigeon on the peas and wouldn't mind having a crack at some before it's too late. Cheers aubs.
