  1. good one spud, nail em with a 22rf sounds good to me, don't know why you didn't use a shotgun at this range they are leathal to charlie too, hushpower wont wake the kids up! Dont like charlie much here either, he eats too many chickens for my likeing. good to hear that post
  2. I'm lookig to get one of these too or a similar gun, let me know if you have any info to share. sounds like we would be putting similar ammo through it.
  3. Thanks for your replies, the gun will be used for some general shooting of wildfowl, pest control, but will also need to be good for pigeon too. My budget probably wont stretch to a new 391 so I'm keen to hear about the sx3 as this is more competative on price. both take 3" shells I think. The gun will probably be the only semi I ever buy and will need to take the riggours of all conditions and perform relyably. I'm also in the market for a hushpower .410 pump, which I have some experience of. have you used one of these?
  4. I'm thinking of buying a new semi 12g camo, dont know which is best for me but like the look and features of the SX3, the AL391, etc. I'd like a 28" barrel, 14 3/4 stock, fairly straight, idealy section1. Anyone got anything to say about this type of gun, and its suitability, relyability, how it handles in the hide, etc?
  5. Shot size no 6 30g is good for most birds and smaller pests like bunnies too. Lead loaded cartridges are cheaper, and the only ones available with fibre. Plastic leaves more visible bits behind which some folk dont like, all steel shot is plastic wadding, but often faster, and often caries more shot. I use no 7.5 and 28g loads for clay shooting but I know some people go a lot lighter. These cartridges are very cheap and you can get duff ones occasionally. There are many variations on this topic tho. Hope this helps.

  9. oh bum, i've got a meeting tomorow with the rozzers re certificate ammendment, and the dentist. otherwise .............. loads of big flocks about at the moment, I'm iching to bag some. Wife looking foreward to de breasting them
  10. sounds like a great offer to me, sadly too far away. I guess the trouble most folks will have is distance, or other shooting waiting to be done-if they are lucky enough to have some. Good luck mate.
  11. It's not a big year for acorns in dorset either, there is some beech mast tho and I have seen loads of birds on this
  12. I always go for the cheapest 28g 7's usually from an agricultural merchant. Dont have many problems with these, although I did have a few duff ones in a box recently, luckilly no one came a cropper with them and broke thier guns or worse, and I did eventually get a refund for the said duffers, so all is well that ends well. For pigeon shooting however you need a heavier load and larger sized shot.
  13. nice looking gun, carefull you dont burn your fingers blasting all those pesky varmint
  14. yeah, i'd like to break some clays, always need all the practice I can get!
  15. Yeah, The keepers i know. Were all good friends, so no problems with the things you mention Nipper.
  16. Gee, Thanks for the great response to my question. It seems that it is pretty much ok, but only a good distance from the pens and drives/stands, but not within 300m or so, and with no dog etc. Not on partridge country, or late pm for roost shooting, as this is bedtime for game too during the game season. and not the day before a shoot either. Common sense. Thing with pigeon shooting is that you do move around every time you go, and often a long way, over completley diferent crops / locations. If I were a keeper, I would try to be accomadating towards pigeon shooters, so long as they have proper permission etc. because they maybe the game shooters of tomorrow, and mostly are very carefull not to interfere with your job of keeping game. Some keepers I know see thier role as countryside wardens and just dont want anyone around. I dont see how it can be healthy to discourage fellow shooters from enjoying thier chosen persuit too. Thanks again and happy shooting-- whatever the quarrie. Miroku man
  17. Does occasional pigeon shooting over a variety of crops over a large area really disturb the game birds ? or is this a myth propagated by keepers to make thier job easier knowing that there is no one about? I have never met a pigeon man who is ignorant of gamekeeping and would knowingly shoot where a drive was expected the next day or so after.
  18. Just tried the hottest chilli on the planet, it's called a bhut jollklii 4 and the grower gave me a plant in repect. I only ate a half with no seeds and it took me a full 10 min to recover!!!!!!!!! :yp:
  19. Im not sure i would eat a tree rat as they often eat poison which can harm humans too.
