  1. IMHO the reason a dog is good or bad rests purely with it's breeding & training. If you have aquired a pup who has parents with good working ability, then it is likely to have the potential to become a good worker, with the correct training of course. If the parents are useless, then you may find the pup has less potential whatever colour. I suspect most Chocs are from show lines and that could account for the reputation they have gained.
  2. That was quick. PM sent. SOLD.

  4. I see "has a magazine capable of holding more than two rounds of ammunition", actually the same mistake as last year. What a load of hassle just because someone cannot be bothered to engage their brain while writing the draft document.
  5. I remember speaking to you and your colleague about the General Licence farce last year when the licence only gave authority for a semi with 3+ magazine capacity with no authority to use non FAC autos or SS & OUs for that matter. Seems to only give authority to use non FAC semi auto this time. A direct contradiction from last year. I cannot understand it. Obviously, authority is needed to shoot pest species with traditional shotguns, semis of all descriptions, pumps and airguns, so why don't they just include these "weapons" in the notes and be done with it. Some Civil Servant (or probably ten Civil Servants) actually get paid for this! It's not really good enough in my opinion.
  6. Try Shallots for pickling, they're great. I've grown 100s this year and pickled quite a few jars.
  7. Just had my new pup jabbed. Cost £30 total for both jabs, 2 weeks apart, plus 2 doses of Frontline free, plus 4 weeks pet insurance free. £10 if you want a micro-chip. This was at one of those "Companion Care" vet franchises inside the pet shop called Pets at Home, I think. It's a nationwide company, so there is no reason to pay more!
  8. Crate training this little minx at the mo.
  9. I lived at Bicester and there were foxes about and loads of Muntjac.
  10. I lived down there for a couple of years. There are lots of woodpigeons to shoot, but permission was hard to come by. I did manage to get permission on one farm though. There are commercial woodpigeon guides operating in that area, for a price & I understand that there is a Woodpigeon Club based at Banbury. I tried to contact the Banbury Club without success.
  11. Thanks to those who have sent me reply messages. We still have vacancies, but applications will only be accepted from individuals local to Scarborough, ie within about a 20 mile radius.
  12. We have limited vacancies now MUST live local to Scarborough, hold a shotgun cert and buy me a pint!
  13. I've become aware of this "4 inch high" idea lately. Who thought it up? Certainly wasn't my wife, my mum or my gran... So it can't be right!
  14. It all depends on the size of the dog and the amount of theobromine in the chocolate. If a small dog eats a lot of high cocoa chocolate then it is very dangerous. Obviously, a large dog will cope easily with small amounts. Much of todays "chocolate" is chocolate flavoured coating anyway and poses little danger.
  15. I just found this http://www.e2learn.co.uk/showincourse.asp?course=18
  16. More from CA today: The Countryside Alliance's influential Game-to-Eat campaign continues to reach new audiences. In this week's Hello! magazine, on page 50 - 52 there are three pages of Game-to-Eat's recipes from the current recipe booklet, bringing game into the homes of the magazine's 405,615 readers. The campaign has also had some positive feedback from Tesco, with game buyer James Renshaw commenting on the success of the recent pheasant sampling for store customers: "As the British wild game season has a very short window being one of our truly seasonal foods we took the opportunity to introduce pheasant to our shoppers with hot sampling with the Game-to-Eat campaign. The initial feedback is looking positive. We've seen a steady increase in interest in game and sampling can help capitalise on their interest."
  17. Here's the lame response I received: Dear Malc, Thank you for your feedback on our film. We are sorry you are offended by its content. The concept of shooting is a metaphor for how the public thinks about children and is not intended to single out those who take part in shooting sports as those wanting to shoot children. The analogy is born out of a direct quote taken from a newspaper website written by a member of the public. Our intention is not to offend people, but to highlight society’s intolerance of children and young people. We believe the most shocking part of the film is the comments made by the public. We have also made a public comment to the British Association of Shooting and Conservation (BASC) http://www.basc.org.uk/content/basc_wins_apology Thank you for your comment. Yours sincerely Collette Collins Head of Brand and New Media
  18. Why the urgency? I've done the course, but never been asked by a gamedealer.
  19. I had another look at the game for sale in Sainsburys today. Just four lonely looking pheasants, no other game meat at all. I'm sure they could try harder.
  20. So, after recently finding out that my Swiftcover policy does not cover working dogs, the burning question is... does pet-insurance.co.uk cover working dogs?
  21. These are the only ones I know of, http://www.basc.org.uk/content/basc_training_courses/dates
