  1. Finally got through by phone. They've received it but not processed it, and were unsure why I didn't receive an automated response. I'd have preferred something in writing, but they say it's ok so I'm happy enough with that. Judging by the "don't call us, we'll call you" style answerphone message; they're a bit snowed under! Thanks for the replies.
  2. Hello, Has anyone notified Kent Police of a firearms transfer by email recently? The last time I did it was the end of 2014, and used firearms.registration@kent.pnn.police.uk and got an emailed receipt the following day. I tried it again last weekend and haven't heard anything back yet. I tried phoning a couple of times on Friday but nobody answered. I'll phone them again tomorrow to check. I wonder if the address has changed, or they've just not got around to it yet. Cheers Barney
  3. Looks like that may be the way to go. I do programming for a living so no problem knocking something up, but i won't reinvent the wheel if I don't have to! Thanks
  4. Hello. I know there are a few score trackers for keeping track of personal improvements, but is anyone aware of any that can keep track of a group easily? I'm going to start helping out on a pub shoot and a nobody is bothered about winning prizes but a few people want to keep track of how they're doing with respect to everyone else. Does anything like this exist? Thanks.
  5. Out of interest, why are you getting rid of them? I gave all of mine away because whenever I fired them I couldn't open the bolt afterwards!
  6. My old FEO said he'd usually visit in person at least on every other renewal.
  7. Several years back the local keeper organised a vermin shoot, which included a walk up through the woods. A couple of dogs got excited & at a closer look there were two cammo'd guys watching the lane through some binos because they suspected it was a drug dealers drop-off point He says some top brass turned up to appologise to him after.
  8. I thought HMR was a standard mid-range fox rifle... IMHO it seems like a pointless calibre otherwise - expensive for rabbit, too fast for most ranges, too light for wind etc etc. What would they allow it for?
  9. As others have mentioned, there are loads of alternatives. http://www.charitychoice.co.uk/charities/animals/endangered-animals-and-wildlife-conservation?onlinedonations=0 Check out your yellow pages - there'll be a load in there too.
  10. Any multimeter will do, but digital readout will be simplest. Maplins is the place to go. You'd be better off buying a battery tester though. If using a voltmeter, the amount of charge remaining compared to the voltage output will vary depending upon the chemical composition of the battery. For example, NiMH will have a high voltage until quite near the end, whereas a NiCd will drop off more linearly.
  11. Also, I'd considered the .38special & .357 (easier on the ears!) but this; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muzzle_energy#Typical_muzzle_energies_of_common_firearms_and_cartridges put me off a bit. It appears the .38 has twice the M/E of a 22LR. It'd probably be fine at the sort of ranges I'd expect to be accurate over, but I'm not enough of an expert to judge if this would be good enough - I'd rather use something that would guarantee a kill. I've done a bit of reading on American sites, they seem to use them for squirrels, rabbits and bobcats, whatever they are. Of course I'm assuming that their squizzers are the same as ours and not supersized. I expect it'd be fun, but not very practical. Hopefully this isn't going too off topic, but if anyone can think of any more benefits it would be useful! Red beard, mereside - thanks. Cheers!
  12. I'm due to have this argument with the FEO in the next couple of months. I'm convinced that a .44mag would be ideal for some vermin tasks, for example to use in woodland clearings from a high seat; - Loads available that exceed the limit for CWD & Mj in England (so would be fine for fox!) - Large solid bullet (so wont fragment when hitting a leaf like a ballistic tipped HMR/223) - Heavy bullet (lots of energy transferred into the fox) - Flat headed bullet slows down quickly (limited range, wont leave the woods - might need to work on this argument in case the FEO thinks I'm not using a backstop!) - Wikipedia says they're used for Elk! - Carbine with open sight allows for fast acquisition FEOs agreeing what "good reason" means might be a better start
  13. I didn't realise there were so many shooters in Kent - no wonder it took me so long to get somewhere to shoot!
  14. The folks on the radio keep going on about 'free flow tolling', which I suppose will be like the congestion charge. It'd be nice if the offer went as far as Rochester. I go via the Blackwall tunnel every day because I'm a cheapskate
  15. What he said. What date did you give the notice?

    TV Licence

I occasionally watch things on iPlayer. If you try to watch a live (or nearly live) broadcast, a box pops up asking "do you have a TV license?". If you click no, it reminds you that you shouldn't be watching it. Everything else is freely available. I don't have a license. The licensing people confirmed that what I do is ok (although I later changed my story to "I dont watch anything, ever" because they kept pestering me!)
  17. The DirectGov website is useful for this sort of thing. This guy sums it up a similar situation to yours nicely: http://www.propertyinvestmentproject.co.uk/blog/tenants-right-to-live-in-quiet-enjoyment/ As for the notice period thing, that sounds a bit suspicious too. It might be worth getting it checked out (or come to an agreement between ending it earlier and allowing access)
  18. There's a Dubliners video on youtube singing Lord of the Dance. Well worth a listen
  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQ0oCmDXrVk Well said that man. First time I've felt a tear run down my face in a long time The one that gets my head nodding: Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues The one for taking a step back and having a think: Donovan - Universal Soldier If it wasn't played at so many funerals, I'm sure Amazing Grace would win this argument hands down!
  20. You can still ask before & after the interview, so it's not all bad.
  21. I think it's a shame that people respond in the way this guy has. However, we had someone screw up an interview at work a while ago so we got sent on a course. Here is the summary to help avoid the problem in future; An interview (even if informal) must be to ***** the candidates ability to do the job, and nothing more. By asking where they're from they could argue that you're judging them on something other than their merits. In this example you'd have realised that you couldn't communicate clearly, and that would be enough to rule them out. Delving deeper in this instance will turn poor communication skills into racial discrimination complaint. Anything about race, ethnicity, sex, religion, origin, age, disabilities, marital status etc should be avoided.
  22. Hang on... you swapped a Gat for a mamod!?!? I do love my shooting too, but you're insane! Ps, I've got a Gat in the loft for swap - promise I wont tell your parents
  23. I had to get insurance for mine. I wanted to risk it, but I was politely reminded that the bank is buying the house, not me! The one I got was about 30 quid and as far as I could tell lasts forever - I can even pass it on when I sell the place. Give your solicitor a call to confirm everything, that's what they're for.
  24. If it takes a gun geek to know the difference between an entrance hole and an exit hole then I'm glad I'm not your missus That was kind of my point, although maybe I should add something about having an obnoxious sense of humour to my signature. The first page is full of people saying "definitely came from the outside", as if people actually knew what they were talking about... then some evidence by someone that had actually done it, followed by "it definitely came from the inside". Bangon's suitability to investigate was questioned, but it didn't stop a load of uneducated guesses about something that will ultimately affect the life of a bloke & his family, but would otherwise mean someone wandering around the camp accidentally shooting people. In either case I don't envy the decision you have to make! Good luck mate!
  25. I'm more surprised at the number of people here that have obviously never fired a jacketed round at a steel plate
