  1. I think most pigeons nest within gardens and villages towns and citys I rarely see nests in open countryside.

The amount of birds I shot on the land where the new honda rail link site near swindon all the birds use to come from stratton .

  2. After a few busy weeks at work but very quite on the pigeon front a real lack off birds .

I spotted a 50 or so birds feeding regular on some linseed thats just coming though.

Not whats diffrent on this field was the wind direction out the north eastly direction and boy it was cold.

I have not know the month so cold on average I had all my winter gear on hat gloves etc.

But the birds where steady for 3 hours and full of clover and linseed finished with 32 .

    Kind regards OTH

  3. Despite your and others thoughts you still have to have the land owner permission be it national park ot private.

And if its recongized site any chance of the landranger map number an six figure grid ref for future ref.

    To quote a few ref

On open access land wild camping is prohibited under sche 2 of countryside act and rights of ways act 2000 .

Most of the lakes and moors etc is in private ownership .

I no there is conflicting advice and I would be intrested I have yet to meet a ranger who speaks openly with on this subject .

I am not trying to upset you blunderbuss as you where of the first to welcome myself on the forum,

    Kind regards OTH

  4. Sorry and I dont want to be a killjoy.

But dartmoor is the only real place in england you can wildcamp legally as shooters and fisherman we all are surley know that we should not be camping on private land .

As I am sure if we turned up on one of our shoots with campers be them ****** or just joe public we would all be shouting what a cheek spoiling our sport etc.

I know there is situations that needs you to bivi out unplanned I have done it twice and yes you may well keep the area clean and tidy up.

But unless you have permission by the land owner I would say give it a miss and it may even put at risk your licence if you get caught.

  6. We dont have a huge amount of game birds and can shoot most of the woods all year though .

On the grenery side we have one large beech wood thats hardly coming out in leaf yet well may have a go this afternoon evening if the wind stays keen.

  7. Its not rocket science the cost of living is rising by the day but our incomes unless you are lucky are standing still .

So in theory we are all taking a pay cut until last year before I became self employed my wages had been the same for 5 years yet my outgoings had risen by 15%.

The goverment cant get there head round this and thats why there is a lack of money to spend by joe public.

And for all the county who slag off BA workers for fighting for a fair pay rise all they are trying too do is maintain the standard of living when they first took employment with BA and I cant see what was wrong with that.

  8. The sad fact somebody may have beaten me to it but having said that the lady has said four other where going to take it away.

But we will see I said I can remove this weekend and the other lad who is young says he can do it in the next month.

So yes I will keep you all updated.

    Kind regards OTH

  9. Not going down the old show some compassion thread but do you think bird number are down after the cold winter.

In my diary I am nearly 700 birds down on first 4 months of the year compared to last year.

Now I new to pigeon watch but I am sad and went thought last years reports on here and a rough guide was there was just short of 600 birds shot between 1st april 2009 and the end of april.

Now this year over 600 was reported and if you remove my reports and bags it was only 350ish .

I know new members float in and out of posting but some of the regulars that posted bags last year have not reported such good bags this spring and the drilling reports have been really poor.

Whats your thoughts mine is in oxfordshire and surrounding areas we have less birds fact .

    Kind regards OTH

  11. My view are that there is a whole loat more in life for me and others weather famous or just joe public to worry about.

Yes I agree foxhunting or any for of hunting is not to everybodys taste but there is alot of things I dont like others doing but I dont protest .I concertrate on improving my life and others near me like freinds and looking after older neigbours and if the likes of brian may put more time and his money into real life problems the world would be better.

    Kind regards OTH

  13. Pea variety seems to be key I have kept a detailed history of crop and variety and bags over the last five years.

It makes intresting reading I have found diffrent pea types affect pigeon intrest and the one field that I shot over 5000 from drilling to ploughing in was Genki if I have writen it right is the one that attracts pigeons the most.

Others there not so keen on I will have to dig it out for more detail .

I have been shooting most of the birds now on white clover and well eated down OSR.

    Kind regards OTH

  14. After a couple of slow weeks as the birds have paired up and had a good couple of hours on some linseed drilling .

Finnished with 39 in three hours the birds have had a complete change and was really focused on decoying .

Now this year I have alot peas to proctect as I have in recent years given the birds a bit of a rest for personnel reasons.

But I think this year I will have kick on and protect the 3000 acres of peas.

  15. Forget it, you will get bitten daft and the smell will put the misses right off you!

    :yes::good:

I have a ferreting requirement several times a year but there is no way I would consider keeping them, I have a crew I call upon, and as for a pet :P:yes:

    ATB!!

I dont know what up is on about ferrets can be not only wonderful workers but also great pets far more interactive than most over small furry creatures like cats.

But you must insure you have enough time to look after them correctly as they are far more high maintance than a cat.

I would stick with two young hobs that have had the snip jills are a pain the backside like most things female coming into season like PMT is a nightmare.

You dont need a huge hutch so long as you get them out daily to play you can even have them out in a part of the house thats ferret prove.

Food wise I have for years used chudleys ferret over james wellbeloved as I found the later was too oily and gave the ferrets a waxy brown stuff at the base of there fur.32% protein is I think the min as ferrets have very short digestive tracts and need higher protein to get enough for there busy active style off life.

When you first get them whistle talk alot too them as ferrets have short eyesight and react to your voice well.

    Kind regards OTH
