Now, let me guess, picked up 161, shells fired 175..? :good:

    Cat.

    You naughty boy Cat

I do some work now and then but I dont like it to get in the way of my shooting .

I dont know how many rounds I fired but the birds where very lariy for drilling and spooked like they had been well shot before .

  2. 955i Dont be put off I had one quality motor I have top spec ES model I found the air suspenion great for loading my large lab into the back and saves his joints jumping out and my back.

I hitch and unhitch loaded trailes great lower pickup etc.

If it missing it will be the injector harness red plug next to battery box full off oil.

You want the rear suspenison air bags replaced within the last year with invocies to prove geniune dulops not S??parts items.

I sold mine at a profit and only sold it to fund a new chipper .

    All the best OTH

  3. Started early on some barley today recce yesterday large numbers but the field was being rolled .

So gave it a try today after a very slow start only 19 by 12ish the birds started to move in mass .

The wind was good warm sun lovely finished with 161 before drizzle stopped play.

No whirly just good old deeks .

There was hardly any barley left and was well rolled in .

    All the best OTH

  5. More poles for certain we operate on very sandy soil and use plenty .

Top line tight I now use dowel for poles it means you can move the top line up and down quickly without hitching.

The most important thing is to have either end well anchored .

  6. can i ask a stupid question about spring drillings? im going to anyway. i was told that the pigeons dont like the barley that is coated with a red pestiside before planting? now i have shot a few with full crops with red barley. is there any truth in thepigeons not liking the sown seeds that are coated with this red pestiside?

Mark there are not as keen on it till it has had rain wash but after eating greens for 5 months it will not totally put them off.

I am lucky to have a couple of organic farms and the pigeons for certain prefer there non coated seed.

    Regards OTH

  7. well done.... what where shooting over.

OSR the birds are not showing any intrest in the barley next to it it covered in dressing.

I dont think much will be shot on drilling round this way as the frost has broken down the soil and the seed bed is perfect .

    Regards OTH

  8. Once again had a good couple of hours this afternoon.

The sun was warm and the birds seem to be happy until I put 32 grams of 6s up there backside.

The birds have 100% changed to late feeding I shot for 1500 hrs till 1730hrs and the birds where still flicking over but called it a day.

Total was 30 all the best OTH

  9. Pete

Seen my first today more rooks than pigeons covered in coating which puts the pigeons off.

The birds seem more keen on OSR round here and have not switched fields .

Peas it needs to be warmer it wll be a brave farmer to drill yet minus temps and peas dont go together.

  10. Doc mine setup cost rougly 4k but has made its money time over as I use it for business use as well.

    Quad a good one 3.5k road legal and a 2nd hand p6e £500 to £600.

You could put a canopy over the cage on the trailer and mat or fishing bivi bed and bivi bag and be very nice.

    Regards OTH

  11. Doc

I have a 110 with a ifor williams p6e trailer my quad fits into the trailer and then when we get to farm I tip the quad off and hook the trailer to quad perfect.

I cant live with a 4x4 as my work involes hedgeing logging I can reach jobs most cant.

The tralier idear is great for deer as I just have a hand winch to pull the deer onto trailer .

Ferretting wise I can carry all 15 ferrets and a bag load of rabbits without me dad or my wife breaking sweat.

Pigeon shooting great carrys all my gear in trailer plus dog up big hills.

And you can leave you landy nice and safe in the farm yard without it being on the side of the road.

It is the best thing I have bought and will go where a two tonne landy will not without causing massive soil damage.

  12. Better tell the farmer as driving a conbine or tractor is going to be a whole load closer.

I agree there is nowt wrong with setting up under pylons etc but have for it is better to draw the birds off the flight line that happens as birds do track along them.

  13. After talking to a farmer last week and getting the go ahead for shooting on clover .

Setup 900hrs the birds where on the deeks straight away coming out of the large wood 5000acres plus.

Finnished dinner time with 72 home for a qucik snack then off to a rape field .

Now this field has a main A road but you tuck under the hedge safe and legal distance thanks to huge bank and beech trees.

Now the wind was coming right to left perfect for this field the birds where tracking up the A road to may left.

Pulling in lovely now to too my left there was a massive flock 5 10 thousand birds which helped to pull the birds accross my deeks .

Finnished 32 in just over two hours a cracking day with a total of 104.

  14. The key factor of growth is soil temp not air temp most crops need 4c to start root growth.

Top dressing at the moment is hopeful as the ground is still well below that in oxfordshire .

Oilseed rape grows at lower temps compare to barley and wheat etc this why it gets top dressed first.

    Regards OTH

  15. I found that top dressing push the birds off for about two weeks as it makes the rape taste bitter.

All our rape has just been top dressed but if it stays dry it will not be absorded by the rape straight away.

Then its battle between the rape tasting better but growing too fast the only upside tho that is it can focus the birds into areas that are behind.

    Regards OTH

  16. I have always used lice powder it has kept away tick fleas etc.

A small dusting in there beds before they get put in there and let the lice powder settle.

I think it by a company called battle and can be found in horse feed shops .

    Regards OTH
