  1. my point is that it is possibly damaging to admit on a public forum such as pigeonwatch that pigeons are shot for sport

No whats damaging is to admit on a public forum that some are shooting thin underweight and under pressure birds.

Under the unbrella of vermin control wake up boys most members of the public understand this and accept it.

As the thread starters title suggest compassion with control is needed at the present time.

    Regards OTH

  2. I didnt get satisfaction when I contacted them and after discussing things with the people at uk shootwarehouse I posted my findings on here, your aggresive attitude is poor and illinformed. I have just posted what has happened so that other people who may order on the internet will be informed, they can then deciede what they want to do.

I have posted that I will wait a week for things to sort themeselves out and then try and reoder

you ASSUME as a good armchair warrior, that I was ordering just two Hyperflad, however for your information..so you now have the full details, the order was for over £250 "just about sums up customers like you" ..... Think again buddy and your post is typical of people like you. illinformed and full of wind :hmm:

So In posting to give others information I hope that it is read in the manner intended. If I was anti UK Shootwharehouse I dont think I would post that I was going to try again next week.

Up to everybody to make up there own minds.

    Doc

Doc could not agree more .

Try pinewood gear IMO better gear more expenive yes.

But had a old pinewood whirly for near 10 years without fault.

A whirly from said company 3 years and U/S .

  3. i didn't think under the general license we were allowed to shoot pigeon 'for sport' as such if they are damaging crops whether they are thin or not in order to keep them on the vermin list then we should be shooting them to protect crops .......................

Nore should guides be taking out paying clients if you read the fine details of the general licence.

Like fisherman mike says there is not one person on this forum who shoot pigeons and does not find it enjoyable .

So that denotes it being a sport all a very fine line in the eyes of the law.

Crops maybe being stripped bare but crops are easliy reseeded and replaced.

A pigeon population if shooting is not controlled over harsh weather could take years recovery .

Yes we perform control of numbers but we do not want huge population loss either.

And rape will recovery from pigeon damage is bull when some take of crops being damaged to point of no return.

Most crop fail due to poor crop rotation and disease rather than any vermin damage.

Yes may affect yields but not wipe out the crop.

    All the best Oth

  4. Does seem like no one can disagree with you without you spitting your dummy out.

Mark if you read my posts I reply in adult polite way .

Without childish comments like spitting my dummy out.

All the best be happy OTH

  5. As the only Moderator that posted on the "Thin Birds" thread, you must be referring to my post.

Go back and read it, I stated there were no excessively thin birds in my part of Kent.

We have had no where near the snow that the Midlands and North have had and I am stating a fact.

If there were distressed birds in an area I would not be encouraging people to shoot them.

But I was right in thinking you thought that the current weather was far from being hard on pigeons and that we would not be having weather as hard as in the 60s when you and my dad use to find birds dead under the once great elms.

I looked at the weather forcast and said we would all have to be careful about bird condition and as the thread starter in own admission the birds where thin.

So just thought I would highlight what could be future for the birds and it seems my fears might have some truth.

Looking at the next ten days forecast.

And well done fisherman mike your post is the best I have read on the forum.

Hope some take you advice Oth

  6. I would urge you all to show a bit of compassion <_< in the next few weeks while this cold snap is enveloping us all.

With the temeratures plumetting to -6 and below and snow covering all greenery pigeon will be dying in their 100,s of thousands up and down the country

If its anything like the last big freeze in the mid 80,s ( and there is every chance it will be) pigeon numbers could be hit massively to the extent that certain areas will see a serious decline in pigeon numbers in the next few seasons.

It may be good for crop protection but if you want to preserve your sport in hard shot areas show a bit of restraint and compassion for your quarry.

Plus if you dont get out for a few weeks you will enjoy your shooting trip all the more, i can guarrantee it ;)

Glad I am not the only one feeling this way I spoke off my concern in threads like the thin pigeons one.

To be shot down in flames even by a mod who should know better.

I had a big shoot planned for friday as we have no snow in oxfordshire and I will be canceled if we get the forcasted snow.

And will go piking instead to give the birds a rest.

    All the best OTH

  7. Well i had the same problem with a supplier from the Wigan area.

What happened to honest customer service

I agree I think in good times many companys have enjoyed profits and because there was so much credit about there customer service went down hill .

If any company carrys on with poor service it will not last long hope uk shootingwarehouse sorts it out soon.

Becase they do some very good stuff as much as it pains me to say.

    Regards OTH

  8. You still go shooting with your Dad..?? :)

How many telegrams has he had from the Queen..?? :good:

Best of luck OTH, keep us all posted, I hear them Woodies down Wilts way are suicidal.

    Cat.

    Hi Cat

Dads about 75 now still going mad standing out in this weather he spent his cold weather payment on cartridges instead of heating.

Oth is a name I used on another forum as my favoured name on forums was used up on PW .

I only a wee slip of a lad at 36 so my forum name does not denote I am Over the hill.

Wilts woodies do seem slighly more decoyable I think there not so much pressure in wilts I see more shooter in oxon than wilts.

    Cheers OTH

  9. I have hered a few pigeons cooing over the past 2-3 weeks, but then that is why there is so many of them about :good:
    ]

Do you think the last 7/8 years of mild winter and early springs have screwed there body clocks up.

I think if the weather carrys on like this we may see a large drop in pigeon numbers for first time in 15/20 years.

    OTH

  10. I have had a real problem with a group of birds hitting a large area across three fields .

Right on top of the marlborough downs in middle of nowhere but I have beeen recce it for two weeks and have aranged .

My dad to cover one field me other and a friend the other in the last week bird numbers have been growing daily .

In region of 5 6000 birds accross the 3 fields over 2000 acres of rape.

So will report on sat the bag results .

    All the best Oth

  11. Yeah but banging away at it on a shooting forum will get you nothing apart from high blood pressure.

It's not like the Home Secretary is a member of this forum and open to suggestions from the floor.

In essence, whatever you think (one way or another) it's a waste of time getting steamed up about it.

Back on topic - they ain't gonna march, it's a publicity stunt and you are falling for it. Whose the mug? They are getting what they want and you are getting wound up.

    Answers on a post card.....

This is the off topic section of the forum mungler so as a rule it has topics outside of shooting life.

  12. while out for a walk today before dinner, my dad killed a pigeon passing by that would have needed to be seen to be believed! all of 60 yards, dead in the air, the cartridge??....... 24g 7.5 a cloud of feathers came out of this bird as you often see at close ranges!

Some would class that is just as bad as shooting at a bird at close range .

  13. Genuine question which has as always been taken out of context by some readers.

What shooting pigeons in summer has to do with shooting at fieldfares I dont know.

Some of you guys have got to sort out your problems if we cant get on a forum this is why the world is in the poo .

    All the best OTH

  14. ....................Less than an hour.....

That's what I'll give this thread considering the other one got zapped sharpish. :good:

When a thread is pulled I think a reason should be posted by the mods to explain why.

The last thread seemed to be adult and fair to me.

  15. Countryfile is filmed for the townies that like to look at 'cute' foxes and have never actually been into contact with the real countryside.

Some of these folks should see the damage and devastation foxes do do poultry.

I think it is a case of monkey see monkey do :good:

I think by reading some of the replies on subjects in my very short time on this forum some of the pw members are also in this bunch.

As it very clear some have been reading too many magzines and watching programes like countryfile.

Alot of folk seem to have very little knowledge of countrylife in great britain.

I am only 36 and have milked cows from a very early age and lived and breathed the countrylife for all of them bar 7 years in armed forces .

    And still learning everday.

Countryfile has some good topics but this has really put me off the programe as a geniune good veiwing.
