  1. Ive got a question for any sparks out there. Im looking to build a house in the spring and im looking for a rough guide as to what to expect to pay for the wiring. It is a dorma bungalow with 5 bedrooms. Not looking for anything fancy, reasonable number of power points in each room, tv in bedrooms, smoke detectors, pendant lights, 2 electric showers and to wire in boiler and underfloor heating thermostats. I know every job is different but a ball park figure would be great. Im in south west Scotland. thanks
  2. I think the fear of a shovel shake in the middle of the night by guys with respirators on and a broom handle up the jacksee will help focus the mind as to who is in charge. Many a man has turned up to parade after "falling in the shower".
  3. As a Scotsman married to an English Rose ( Well a hardnosed Scumbrian) with a couple of halfbreed brats i actually felt sorry for everybody over the solway for this latest kick in the teeth regarding perscriptions. It doesnt seem fair but then i saw on the news that the money spent subsidising wasters, Poles and also hard working low income Scots means that there is no money for services enjoyed by those south of the border ie. Cancer screening within 2 weeks and new treatment clinics. It also said 9 out of 10 perscriptions in England would be dispensed for free? A lot of things seem badly reported and intent on causing trouble between the two countries. I wish things were more transparent and we could all get on with standing shoulder to shoulder and putting the Great back in to our Britain and protecting the things we all have in common!
  4. Im reading the book on how the business started. Its entitled Only the best will do and is actually very inspiring and even though im not religious ive taken a lot from it to use in my day to day life. Father Eddie's first enterprise was a Rabbit catcher which gave him money to buy hens and from eggs he got in to buying a fertiliser contract and the rest is history! Easy!
  5. I dont know how we as a country can do anything here but would love to see that daffi duck get a tomahawk through his letterbox. Ive not forgotten hiding down a banking with my face in a big dog **** waiting for the big fireball to get me and then rubble and all manner of **** like kerb stones and stuff landing about me as i shouted for my mum. I still to this day dont know how i never got hit lol.
  6. That would be a Whisky, he is looking for a Whiskey which our tattie munchin cousins are famous for.
  7. Thanks for all the advice lads. When i said my family would be left with nothing i meant bricks and mortar wise as we rent. I have a life insurance policy that would see them right,
  8. Anybody got a crystal ball. Im trying to figure out if i can afford to go ahead with a project which would be life changing for me and the wife but i think would give my two kids a great start to life in the country. As things stand with interest rates we can do it but my question is do you think they will rise and how far will they go. Ive looked back in time and if they went to the same levels as say 1987 - 1991 we would be on the street. That said i rent at the moment, ive got a dangerous job and if i dont come home from a night shift ( sounds dramatic but true) my family has nothing and would be without a house. If i go for it and something happens its paid for. What do you guys think?
  9. There is no excuse for not having a working smoke alarm these days. As a firefighter i spend a lot of my time fitting alarms and carrying out informal home visits. Its a free service and we can pass on tips and give advice on how to get your house safe and if the worst happens how to save your family. I know a lot of people say we are lazy and all the rest of it but we will be there straight away to make you feel safe. It only takes a few minutes. Ive seen first hand families destroyed and loved ones lying in the front garden dead for the sake of a couple of quid. Just contact your local fire and rescue service and they will see you right!
  10. I was moved and felt very proud of all the award winners. I was a bit dissapointed with the quality of some of the so called celebs doing the presenting. I felt these boys deserve more than a couple of mumbled and half hearted attempts. That big Rio has all the warmth and personality of a traffic cone.
  11. If you are travelling yourself, make sure you now where to meet and be on time. Its likely to be pretty informal but i would check and see if there is any dress code ie. a tie or no camo. Chances are you will be able to wear what you want but its worth checking. Also make sure you have your insurance up to date. At a lot of the walked up days i go to the keeper always asks if we are all insured and have game licenses (Scotland). Its always said with a smile or a wink but its a freindly warning before we start. Listen at keepers briefing and enjoy your day. Chances are you will pick up some good contacts and get invited back.
  12. I could do with a bit of advice lads. Ive got a 8 month lab which is my first dog. Tonight i took the dog down the fields before dark and about a mile from my back door she ran down and caught a rabbit which she brought straight back to me despite ignoring me when i told her to leave it. She was really pleased with herself and because she came with it i didnt discipline her in any way. She was really soft mouthed but i noticed the rabbit had myxi so i broke its neck and threw it in the burn. We then went home and i forgot about the incident. About an hour later i let her out the back for a pee and when i went to let her back in she was gone. She has never left the garden before. To cut a long story short after a good while she reappeared running full tilt over the field with the rabbit proud as punch. It was defo the same rabbit. Im confused as to what to do here. Her instinct is obviously really strong to retrieve to me but i cant let her get away with hunting.
  13. You can only p@ss with the c!ck youve got!! Seem to say this most days!
  14. I am training my first dog. She is a 8 month Lab bitch and i am really enjoying it so far. At the moment i would be satisfied with a basic shooting dog but think that if i got that i would want more from her as we progress. Im in no rush and dont want to spoil her but at the same time i wonder if things are on track. My question is. In the real world and not from a book what would you expect a dog and handler to be able to do at 8 months?
  15. My lab bitch is just coming 5 months now and ive taken everything slow with her. Ive just done wee fun retrieves with a ball and got her sitting at meal times. She is great on the lead and i can even get her to sit and stay for a wee bit before she is allowed to get the ball. Ive got a big field that i walk her round and give her a wee run at night in. Up till now she just plays about close and comes when i call her but now she has started coming in just to the point that i cant quite get her lead on and then takes off in big circles and wont come back for anything ie treats as she knows ill catch her. Ive tried running the opposite way and just ignoring her as this helped when she started to not come back with the ball. I resisted the temptation to chase her but im a bit stuck. Is it just her age and im being tested?
  16. Used to be a cook at the firestation im at. She made some great food. We just do it ourselves now which is hit or miss. Curries on the nightshifts are the dogs. 4 hot meals and sausage rolls at 10 on the dayshifts plus tea is about £12 per tour.
  17. I agree with you mate, as a firefighter i have lost count of the carnage and terrible sights i have seen. If you thought about it to much it would drive you crazy but we are professionals and its our job. You never forget the smell of blood,**** and fuel and see the fact peoples lives are destroyed. Some of the muppet comments on here are just wrong.
  18. My black lab pup is about 10 weeks now and getting bigger everyday and settling in to a routine well. She is sitting when told and doing wee retrieves of a tennis ball really well. Iam really happy apart from the nipping and chewing of people. Ive tried yelping and putting her back in the cage but its not getting through. I tried a tap with two fingers on the nose but she just then thinks she is a terrier and chews a bit more. I know she is very young but can i get some new ideas to stop this or at least a bit of reasurance that this stage will pass. cheers Scott
  19. Her dad was a boy called Muirdrum Glen from up Abington way.
  20. Well i dont know what ive let myself in for but i am up for the challenge and ask for patience for all the questions i will be putting your way over the next year or so! Pups finally here, wee lassie, 8 weeks and full of energy.
  21. Ive got a lab pup coming in a month. It will be 8 weeks and wormed and flead but no jags. Anybody any idea what the jags cost. cheers Scott
  22. Cheers for the replys. I am defo letting go of the trigger between shots so i know its not that but i will take it back to where i got it. Its got a lifetime guarantee but i wasnt planning on using it after just a few trips out. Either that or i will stick it back in the cabinet and get my old yeoman back out. Thousands of shots and never missed a beat!
  23. I bought a Webley and Scott 912g new a couple of months ago and have been shooting ok with it. I have only put maybe 150 shots through it. Most of these have been through the first barrel as ive hit most of what ive needed to with one shot but on several occasions ive went to fire the second barrel and nothing happens. No mis fire or anything, just a solid trigger. If i then switch over the barrel selector and back again it fires fine. It will then fire ok on both barrels. I have been using Eley carts. Any ideas of what the problem is? cheers
