Decided to add a rotary / magnet to my bouncers and shells. Been looking on good old eBay but I'm confused! I can pay anything from £55 to £100 for a new one? What is the difference? What do you guys recommend getting?

17 rem? Presume you mean HMR? Didn't know they did a 25gn bullet that travels at 4k? Which round is that? Nice shooting! -
No problem. Sent you a message

Ive got a cheapy pair of binoculars for sale as Ive upgraded to a pair of Bushnells. They came from 7dayshop.com after rave reviews on here. They are 8x40 and are just a simple but functional pair of binos. I think I paid about £20 for them, they are in good condition and have only been used for a few months. I'm looking for £10 posted. I have a pair of HSF Sherpa Trousers for sale in Green. Size is Medium. I'm 6' and 32" waist with a 32" inside leg and they fit fine. They would be fine for someone a little larger in the waist. They are a silent material, but have a breathable drop liner so they are 100% waterproof and breathable. Info on the trousers here: http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/product/234b0d0d772e331066933061/HSF+Sherpa+Green+Trousers/ I paid £40 for them a few months ago but have only worn them once. I'm looking for £20 posted.

Ive been using the Sonic Shooters aid type plugs for a few years and they work OK for me, I find them OK comfortable etc but I do find that after a big session ie a few hundred shells that my left ear is ringing a bit. I dont get on with ear muff types so before I shell out on a custom set, I thought I'd have a go at DIY. So I ordered a set of DIY mould it yourself plugs off ebay and once they had I set I drilled them out and inserted the sonic valve out of the other plugs I use. They feel really comfy, I can hear reasonably well with them in. I'm off with the 12g tomorrow so I'll see how they fare in the field.

My wife is coming round to the idea of letting me have a. Cocker, however I need sone help! She wants to see one in the flesh in someone's home to see how they are, how they can be when trained etc Does anyone have one in Dorset, Salisbury, Somerset area? That would be willing to help out? Thanks Adam

A cracking day out on Sat. Plan was to go mid channel for Porbeagle Shark, something Ive been meaning to do on the boat for a few years but hasnt happened yet. Long story short, no Porbeagles but had a few nice congers and highlight of the day for me was this 40lb Tope, and a 25lb Blonde Ray.

Im about 45 min away, if you dont get any other offers closer let me know. You wont get many ferreters this time of year as the ferrets wont leave the holes with young down their. Ferreting really starts around Oct / Nov time. I'm happy to shoot them, have a selection of rifles that are quiet and dont riccochet so safe to use around Horses.

I'm in the delicate process of negotiating a gun dog with the wife... She has agreed in principle and we have found common ground on a breed with a working Cocker. So far so good, but she wants to know what all this will cost? It seems the actual dog will be circa £500 but what else? Insurance, jabs, weekly food bill, crates / cages, kennel etc, etc Can you guys give Neva few ball park figures? Adam

Must be a typo? I'd be amazed (and would buy another!) if this is right. 2nd hand on here they regularly fetch 250-300.

Went back out on the disced rape yesterday that I shot my PB over last week. This time I had a mate with me who shoots a rifle but not shotgun, he has done a few clays in the past though. Our first spot was on freshly cut barley - loads of spilt grain and with 6 birds down in 5 mins it was looking to be a good day. We had a pukka hide in a really comfy position out of the wind and drizzle as well.... but as soon as it started the birds dried up and reverted back to the flight line I was under last week. So I moved us. Our hide was mow difficult, on a slope with no flat base to put the seats, and it was just plain awkward.... but the birds came in! Tom buoyed by his initial sucess (he dropped his first few birds) began to take on everything and soon realised how hard this game can be! In the end I called each bird and let him take the decoying birds and I took on the flightline. Masses of shells (didnt count) but a very enjoyable day. I had 4 birds in particular that made the day for me - fast high birds overhead on the wind that I dropped dead in the air - made my day!! Ended with 35 (about 8 in the woods behind that Meg in the photo later picked up) nice to repay the teaching that a few good mates did with me a few years ago. Pictures is my mate Tom and the gorgous Meg.

Thanks guys. I'd love to say Meg is my dog, but she isnt, she just turned up for the photos! She is gorgeous though, planning to get one in a few years time.

It's been a bit hit and miss for me on the woodies this year. Very little wheat cut yet so it's all been Rape and a bit of Barley. Had a couple of 20ish bags but also a few where I havent fired a shot. When I had a call from Fluffy on here saying the farm was covered in pigeons - I was busy at work but made a last minute call, rescheduled and met at the farm for 9am this morning. I was dropped off on a disced rape field and set up on a small outcrop of ferns with a wood behind me. Deeks went out in a hockey stick shape to allow a good landing zone with the right to left cross wind. MY first error was leaving all my hide poles and bouncer rods in the car - bu##er! I bodged a makeshift hide from the only branches I could find - which were far from ideal. I was assured this was a top spot but after 30 mins I hadnt even seen a bird I was doubtful - it all felt wrong, a **** hide, no movement in the pattern and I was set up in a dip with the deeks above my eyeline - not how I like it. I had a bird land in the pattern after an hour but I was up the hedge on the phone and then another 2 shortly after whilst I held the hide together - were things looking up? I had a call from Steff asking if I wanted to move, but decided to give it another 30 mins - and boy was I glad I did! Steadily the birds began to come in, just the odd one at first, but then pretty much a steady stream from 10am through to 3pm - with a real hectic flurry around midday where I couldnt load fast enough! I missed some silly easy birds, but also hot some real high screamers, all in all it was a superb days sport. The hide still wasnt great so I spent a good half and hour in the woods and managed to find 4 green Elderberry branches which improved the hide no end. I didnt leave any birds in the pattern due to the heat so all the birds came to 12 shell deeks just sat on the ground - not even any spring sticks. Ive also been having issues with my Escort not cycling and it's been on the verge of being traded in as much as I love it - but today with 70mm Clear Pigeons it was faultless. Anyway - ended up bang on 50 birds for 107 shells - so pretty much 1:2 ratio - happy with that. Picked 44 birds, lost 6 in the woods and bracken behind which Mags later found. So a PB for me by a long way - low 20's has been my previous best! I'll remember today for a while to come!

Pretty quiet here in Dorset - Ive had a couple of 20+ bags over early cut Barley and then another 20 odd over cut rape on Weds, but went out today and hardly saw one... roll on the wheat harvest.

Dont see these very often... in fact they are very very rare. Caught whilst out bass fishing on Sat morning. Mola Mola - Ocean Sunfish. This was just a baby at 12lb 6oz - they run to over 3000lb!!
-
Doc, Was going to come over and say hello (I was the blue and white Aquafish) but saw you were at anchor and it saw a bit sloppy. We were out bassing - we had a few but it was hard going with lots of miles travelled. Adam

I fancy rearing a few partridge (french) - I already keep a good number of chicken, and just fancy keeping a few initially, but also maybe releasing a few if it goes well - my house borders my shoot so I can effectively use my garden and pens as release pens! How is best to go about it? Buy in fertile eggs and hatch in my incubator? Buy them as day olds?? Any advice?

North Face Windwall - superb! but they dont do it in green....
-
You are correct - they are adjustable... from 5.5lb to 5lb! I found myself tugging on the trigger and bracing myself for the bang! OK - Thanks all, I'll see how I get on with this one, but may go a spring heavier....

My YODAVE kit arrived last week from Canada. I stripped my new CZ455 today and replaced the trigger - the factory pull was over 5lb! I found I didnt need any of the shims supplied - the 455 from the factory was bang on the money with zero creep - nice to see. But what spring to fit? The pack came with 4 - I fitted the 2nd lightest one - on re-assembaly it feels awefully light? I just wondered what most people think is the optimum setting? Or is it all personal preferance? Adam

Ours is pretty good - but I think the issue comes when you are relitively self-sufficiant. I dont mind paying a little extra for quality (always support our local butcher opposed to Tesco) but I cant help walking around seeing Pigeon, rabbit, venison, pheasent etc and thinking 'I get all that for free!' The the preserves section... same response - I grow all my own veg, make my own wine and beer, I shoot, fish and dive - basically I need to buy very little - so whilst I dont mind paying, I'd rather grow, gather or make it!
