  1. With some of the earlier cheap Eastern European cartridge imports, you had more chance of killing the bird by THROWING the cartridge at it, rather than firing it. One called :) Devil or something similar, I think it was a green casing, was terrible. Misfires, loads of smoke, swelled-up cases a complete disaster.
  2. Dead-eye, I will "aim"( ) to be there by 2 pm. If I ain,t there, start with out me.
  3. I haven,t seen Baikal cartridges about for a long time. They weren,t officially "black powder", but you got the impression that it was the sweepings off the floor of the factory, that got put in them. Another worry with them, was that every now and then, a cartridge would make a louder bang, give a bigger kick and casserole the target. Made me wonder if the Russians were testing some of their tactical weapons at the Baikal factory. :0 :0 Aaaah, the old Sellior Bellot, first came in the ten cartridge pack. Nope, they seem to have disappeared also. I missed quite a bit with those. As they were SO cheap, I often thought there might not be any shot in them. But, they did go bang.
  4. lazza, I ain,t gotta job. I,m retarded.....I mean retired.
  5. So a "cheap" price was about £112 per 1000. Thats still on the pricey side of what else is available. I have tried most cartridges and killed birds with all of them. One of the best for hard hitting kills was the Baikal cartridges. The only problem was that they shook my guns to pieces and when it was time to clean the guns, it was a job for a chimney sweep, not a pull through. Ther are a lot of good cartridges about at the moment, probably the best selection I can remember.
  6. Welcome hammergun. Before the cheap continental cartridges came on the scene, I always used Eley Grand Prix 5 & 6 for general shooting and Eley Maximum 4 & 5 for wildfowl and foxes. They were so much more expensive, than the quite suitable alternatives, that I haven,t checked their prices for years. Are they still "expensive" ? A very reliable cartridge.
  7. Dead-eye, give us a time for Saturday at JJ,s. Game bore, why don,t you try to make JJ,s at Dartford on Saturday ? The Biggin Hill Shoot looks possible as well. Subject to etc. etc. etc.
  8. If its still this Saturday at JJ's, post a time and I will try to make it, weather and general obligations permitting. 8)
  9. But even if they are out of warranty, good old Subaru agree to pick up the bill. Innocent and happy customer goes on his merry way.
  10. Subaru Legacy,s don,t get gearbox seal problems. :0 :0
  11. Oh Dear, another quiet day at the Subaru Dealership.
  12. A friend of mine bought one and I tried his gun with it fitted. Its a fiberoptic red dot, it really glows. 8) Very clever when you think there are no wires, batteries or anything. You fit it to the rib with special tape. It works best if you shoot with both eyes open. This way you can see the target AND the sight clearly. If you close one eye, the sight seems to stop you seeing the target. I am use to not consciously seeing the gun sight, but concentrating on the target. I found the glowing red dot distracting. My friend did as well and sold it to someone else. It would be ideal at a shooting school as a training aid, but I would strongly suggest you "Try before you Buy".
  13. Did anyone read the "leaking" of parts of the Queens Speech for the new Parliment. Apparently the abbreviated statement regarding hunting is; "Hunting, not a complete ban. Hunts must prove that they offer the least cruel means of dealing with foxes". Whilst this is just a press rumour, I suspect there is some truth in it. HOPEFULLY.
  14. sean, read the posts in "Hide Poles", in the New Pigeon Shooting Gear Forum. N & S were selling 4 adjustable poles in a carrying bag for about £40, I think. Make sure your new ones have a screw turn locking/adjustable system.
  15. Hey BigDave14, its nice to know you are OK and have been busy doing all the right things. I missed ya, bit like missing a headache, but I did miss ya. :( :( :( :(
  16. If he is now BigDave15, he has probably discovered girls and thats the last we will see of him. Many a good man has gone the same way. :( HH, I,ve never even HEARD of Durham, so I certainly haven,t been there. :( Is it ooop North ? :(
  17. I wonder where he has gone ? :( I haven,t seen any posts from him for a while. He could be on holiday, I suppose. Perhaps he has become BigDave15 !!! :( :(
  18. At £6.50 per 10, thats expensive entertainment. You are only aware of light moving through the air, not individual pellets. Some cartridges seemed to stay brighter longer. Go on, buy a box, you know you want to.
  19. I have not used the Tru-Tracer brand, but I have used tracer cartridges in the past. The idea was to improve my "lead" judgement on a clay layout. We noticed that they do not show up well in bright daylight and the chap standing behind the gun, sees better than the shooter. At twilight, they are great, but almost useless as a training aid. They do demonstrate perfectly how shot "strings", thats about the only good thing I remember.
  20. Unless you need a much heavier or lighter load, stick with your Express 32grm 6,s. If they are what you are confident with. "If it ain,t broke, don,t fix it".
  21. neil, do you bolt your rabbits to nets, or shoot them ? I kept ferrets and worked them with nets, for about 30 years. Great fun through the Winter months (if it stayed dry).
  22. kevin 15, sounds interesting, do you have some ? Who are the sellers ? Is it a private person or a dealer ? Any pictures, website ? More information, please.
  23. amouzoures, welcome to Pigeon Watch. Let us know how you get on.
  24. I will try using a better screwdriver and the rubber band trick. The fact that the supplier gave lazza,s mate FOC new components, suggests that they are well aware of the problem. Why then are they still selling them ? NGhost, where did you buy those fittings ? They sound exactly what I need to "covert" my poles. :(
