  1. was out this afternoon looking at a barley field that was cut yesterday, have shot the field when it had lots of laid on it . had some nice small days of 20 and 30 before they stopped coming in.it also had crows on but walk them off and they never came back, as lots of other places to feed, to day a good wind so got crows off and set up at a pithole with tall oaKS AND CHESTNUT TREES i had seen birds flying to, set crow deeks out had a bird back in notime shot it and set it on flapper and had a nice 2 hours shooting `15 crows and 2 woodies, the flapper worked well . have been shooting my 20 bore last 2months and finding no differance in range getting some good long range birds. how many on here use 2o gauge and whats your opinion on them.
  2. had seen a lot of birds on wheat stubble yesterday, so today had a go in the afternoon, set up at a telegraph pole half way along the field, was very restricted as had a horse paddock to my left and a road in front. had to put deeks diagonal so not to shoot at road or paddock. took some good high birds overhead and crossing behind, had set a flapper in front of deeks and had good response, after a while a crow came over the deeks and i shot it put that out as well and had 6 more crows all decoyed perfectly .ended the session with 28 pigeons and 7 crows, would have been a lot more if i could have shot in front as well.
  3. yes it was nice to be out with him, hope he takes to it keep him off the streets and give him an insite to the countryside.
  4. hi all,was out with 14 yearold grandson. looked at a couple of perms.found birds feeding on stubble, set up wind at my back deeks in front flapper to my right birds came manley from left to right, i shot first 6 or 7 then let grandson shoot , he missed first 2 birds, but as it was only the second time he has shot i looked at his gun mount on next bird, found he had gun low on his shoulder so looking over the barrels in stead of along them after that he went on to shoot 5 birds one was long bird he hit both barrels, he missed a couple more but was a happy boy. we picked 32 and lost 2 , both of us went home happy. he likes the 20bore. better than the 12.as he is quite small.
  5. after looking at a few rape stubbles, and nothing on them , looked at wheat stubble near home found some birds feeding , set up on a hedge line and after only 4 birds came in to deeks only 1 got away .seen birds landing on far side of field near the road, set up at the base of a telegrafe post deeks in front and flapper to one side , had birds in straight away it was steady for twoand a half hours with some good birds taken and some easy birds missed.enjoyed the 20 bore and found no differance in range as i norm.use a 12. picked 48 and lost 6 in wood over a road and in standing corn .
  6. WAs, out later than usual due to taking wife,s car for a window repair, elec. window bad conection APPARENTLY . SO HAD LOOK AT A LOCAL PERM. 7. after looking at a few fields , found some birds on laid barley crows and woodies, set up near pit hole wind at my back. put a few deeks on canes and after, a shot bird a flapper got jackdaw and put that out as well pigeons came and looked at flapper but only 3 came into deeks, but all birds were in range got 17 pigeons and 3 crows for 25 shots with a right and left and 1 extreme range , then rain came so decided to pack in . got about a mile from permmission and rain stopped. but it was 5. 30. so went home not a big bag but was happy.
  8. was out yesterday ,looked at a couple of perms. and found some birds on a old raked over rape field, have not looked at the field earlyer as it was raked as soon as it was combined, no real line into field as birds just fiew out of trees at road side and on to field, set up near a single oak put out deeks in a u shape and a flapper in front, it was hot and no wind witch did not help but birds came and had a look , had 18 in difficult condistions ie, no wind and hot . must say the electronic flapper works a treat.
  9. was out with my son today, must have seen a good 800 to a 1000 on a rape stubble just off our boundry, flight line was along a ditch and tree line , we could have got in the ditch but it would mean most off the birds would have been shot over standing wheat, some birds started to fly over the wood on our side after we fired a shot to see what they would do, so we set up on the wood side wind at our back, birds wanted the rape stubble it was none stop traffic over the ditch and stubble, we set 2 hides about 60 yds apart and after 30 or 40 mins, they were flighting more over my son so we shared the one hide .birds came over high and wide and slipping side ways on a strong wind we shot some very good birds and missed some we picked 27 and lost 9 or ten in standing wheat and the wood dont like losing birds but looked as good as we could , not a big bag but super sport.
  10. THANKS GUYS , BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH EASEY TO DECOY ON THE FIELD
  11. WAS OUT WITH MY SON TODAY, NO WIND TO START BIRDS USING A RAPE STUBBLE OFF OUR BOUNDRY .WE USED TO HAVE THE FIELDS BUT SOMEONE BOUGHT SHOOTING RIGHTS AND HAS NOT BEEN NEAR SINCE RAPE WAS CUT OVER A WEEK AGO, NOR WHEN BIRDS ON IN WINTER.WE SET UP IN LARGE BRACKEN BED AT THE BACK OF A WOOD THAT WE CAN SHOOT, THAT A FRIEND RENTS, WE SET ROTOR ON THE DITCH ON OUR SIDE KNOCKED SOME FERNS DOWN SO IT WAS MORE VISIBLE. WE HAD BIRDS COME ALONG WOOD SIDE AND EVEN PULLED SOME THAT WERE FLYING OVER THE RAPE, IT WAS SLOW GOING BUT WE STILL GOT SPORT , THEN THE WIND PICKED UP AND THE FLIGHT LINE WAS NONE STOP ALONG A RAIL LINE OVER THE FAR END OF THE RAPE IT WAS FRUSRATING BUT WE STILL GOT SOME AS THEY CAME BACK FROM FEEDING ON THE RAPE,WE STUCK IT OUT AND HAD 32 BIRDS BUT IF WE STILL HAD THE FIELDS WHAT A BAG WE WOULD HOPEFULLY HAVE HAD,
  12. out again to day with my son 2 look at a couple of farms we found a lot crows and pigeons on a field of laid barley , problam was all the laid was at the road edge of field. we split up i went to spinny and son went to a pit hole we could not decoy as no were for deeks as it was all standing on our side of field we both had some good sport with pigeons and crows flying over spinny and pit. son had about 8 crows including a right and left at exteme range and 12 pigeons, i had 19 pigeons all flighted over tall trees 37 between us not a masive bag but a good afternoon. ::

  14. had a phone call from a friend to say a field of barley had been cut, got to the field at 12/30 lots of birds in trees and birds flying over. SET UP NEAR A PIT PUT OUT DEEKS AND HAD 2 BIRDS FOR WHIRLY IN TEN MINS.BIRDS STARTED TO COME IN GOOD, THEN FARMER CAME IN THE FIELD AND STARTED TO TURN THE STRAW AND IT DEFO. PUT OFF SOME OF THE BIRDS.STILL HAD BIRDS PASSING AND SHOT SOME VERY GOOD PIGEONS , IT WAS THE HOTTEST DAY SO FAR AND BEING SHELTERD AT THE PIT IT WAS VERY HOT INDEED IN THE HIDE, IT TOOK ABOUT 2 HOURS FOR FARMER TO FINISH AND THOUGH SOME BIRDS DID COME IN TO DEEKS THEY CAME BETTER AFTER HE HAD GONE, FINISHED UP WITH 40 DOWN BUT ONLY PICKED 31 LOST BIRDS IN A BEAN FIELD AT THE BACK OF PIT AND A OAT FIELD TO MY LEFT, NOT THE BIGGEST BAG PUT A VERY ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON.
  15. i would sooner shoot 35 flighting than 7o floating in to decoys/
  16. was out with my son yesterdayon the sindicate shoot.birds flighting just off our boundry so we set up as near to the line as we could. it was hard work trying to get a couple for the rotor to see if we could divert some of them. i had seen birds going over a wood so went over and set my hide halfway on the wood face. my son had a few shots as i was setting up and got birds for the rotor. i had long waits between shots but the quality well worth it i shot some extreme range birds with 3/4 choke and 32gram 6s i my son had birds come to look at wirley but they would not commit so he to had take them at long range we picked 35 and lost 7 between us not a big bag but some very enjoyable shooting.
  17. was out on a friends permission. the farmer had phoned to say he had seen birds dropping in ,my mate was busy so said i could go. set up in a bare patch in the rape and had very strong wind at my back, took rotor but when i set it up found out battery was flat. shot a bird put it on a floater and a few deeks on the bare patch, put dead birds in pattern as i got them it was slow at first but then picked up a bit ishot ok in the wind and hit 29 birds for 37 shots. picked 26 lost 3.and enjoyed it.
  18. well done nice bag , bet u would have got more if u could have stayed.
  19. had a call to take over after my mate on spring rape , as he was going stalking. he had set up early this morning and by 1 oclock had 50 birds. i was set up in the same place at 2 thirty, the wind waS NEAR GALE FORCE, AND THE BIRDS CAME QUITE GOOD SEEING As they had been shot at all morn. i had some cracking sport and some second barrel kills that pleased me no end and three right and lefts, but as usual missed some easy birds, packed up at 5 thirty as we hAD A THUNDER STORM THAT SOAKED ME THROUGH, BUT WORTH IT AS I GOT THIRTY TWO BIRDS;
  20. well. done motty'good carts. to kill ratio.how was the wind ? it was very very windy at my end .
  21. Had a look at some sowing that went in late last week. Good lot of crows on field and about 15 woodies in a single oak tree. The oak tree was the only place to set up as a road to my right, the fields to the left is a sindicate shoot, so set decoys on sowing but the only shots I could take were directly in front and most of them had to be shot through the overhanging branches of the oak. Very strong winds made for some very challenging shots. Birds would not look at decoys at first. Put dead birds in spread as I got them, this helped to pull birds across my front and made for some good sport at both pigeons and crows. I would have got more birds if I could have took every one that came to my right, but it was a no-no because of the road. The bag 20 woodies 9 crows and a feral.
  22. birds feeding on a field of sowing, but could not shoot the field cos of nearby stables. the nearest i could get was a line of oaks a full field away. Birds were using the oaks so I sat at the bottom of a big oak in the hedgerow as I had forgotten hide poles so could not set up the hide in a strong wind. Flighted birds over the trees but off the main line as it was over the back of me off my boundry.but enough birds coming to trees to keep it interesting.Shot a couple of birds and put them out in front as decoys and had some good sport, hitting some good birds in the strong wind. Ended up with 15 birds and a rabbit as I was walking back to the car. If I could have got on the sowing the bag would have been at least trebled but enjoyed it neverthe less
  23. after feeding 2 duck ponds, looked at a couple of rape fields.no birds on the first one , second one birds flying over going to a field off my boundry. set up near three tall tree,s birds would not decoy started to pass wide.shot long crosser . put it out on floater and had birds fly over shot two more . then had long waits odd birds passing missed a long shot ' then got four for four shots. hit another long bird then they stopped flying picked seven but lost one. a lot of birds passed to my right but flying over a barn convertion so coud;nt shoot . but enjoyed it.
  24. my grandson cameron asked to go shooting to day, it was flat calm no wiind at all. pigeons feeding on three different fields. set up near a sicamore tree and had bird right away waited a while for the second one , got whirly going and it pulled in birds . had some shooting in the 2 hours . before they stopped flighting . picked 12 and lost 2,
