  1. Have seen a build up this last 8 days on the wheat and barley fields.pigeons going in the tram lines , a nice wind today so gave them a go.only place I could put decoys was a farm track separating 3 fields and a wide tram line.farmer had said don't walk about in the standing crop so had to pick my shots very carefully tried to drop birds on track and in the wide lines.had a flapper on the track that hadded movement this was OK and pulled birds in I shot ok and if I could have shot at birds flying over the standing barley good bag was to be had. But after 2 hours the battery died on me ,must charge it next time.with no movement birds were going in all over the three big fields. And onto the next farm as well ,so packed up with 21 picked and 3 lost in the crop.not a big bag but enjoyable.

  6. Had a text on Monday from farmer .field sown crows on it,Tuesday no wind and sunny walked crows off set up near a big oak,the gathering area is a wood about 400yds away on another farm with horses on it so no one allowed to shoot, had a 5hour stint for 32 crows 5 pigeons, after first coupleshots crows went every were and slow to come back.if I had a wind would have had a lot more as what did come decoyed well. Wednesday another farm .again on sowing a lot of birds but farmer spreading fertilizer on upwind side of a long narrow field a wood on the boundary that had a good flight line in to it but a trailer was in field with the fertilizer on it next to wood so could not shoot there had to set up down wind and had deeks out 50 yds as birds came overhead and to my left, the flight line was over tall rape into the wood farmer put birds out every time he came near with tractor,I had some good sport at long birds and picked 27 lost 5 in the rape,so not to bad being were I had to set up. Going back to see if I can get near wood as still a lot in there.

  9. Was out looking at barley sowing on two farms, first had a lot in the trees and a few birds coming in also some came on to the field it looked promising , set up and had a bird in the deeks in first 10 mins . Hit with both barrels it dropped and a hour later as I was packing up a bird crossed at long range got that one as well.second farm had a field sown a week ago plenty on top as well. Looked at it early in the week but birds were on the rape on next farm, today they had found the sowing , farmer was sowing a second field over the cart road .and birds going in behind the drill .I set up along a wood edge but the birds would not decoy they came over to look but not commit I changed deeks twice put out a flapper as well made no differance.so shot them as they flighted over, with no wind they were high as well shot some very good birds but missed some as well.even putting dead birds out made no difference.a couple did come over deeks and paid the penalty. Found out from farmer someone was at them till late yesterday but only got 5 he had them well spooked, I shot till 5 30. and picked 21a small bag but alit of fun. I

  12. Hi guys have had a couple of days on the crows, decoying them on stubble problem being 7 fields in a big block.I try to walk them off into a nature reserve as I know the flight line back to the fields.some do go that way but others fly to the stubble behind .have not had bad results 32, and today 30. A mixed bag of carrion crows jackdaws and 4 rooks.
  13. Had a look at a farm that I shot on Tuesday, got 24 pigeons and a jay that day. Farmer asked me when are you coming back as if he see,s 20 birds he moans . So today went and found a flight line across a stubble but it would be shooting at a motorway. So put decoys well out on my right had a bird come over from behind on a return line shot it and put it on flapper in the stubble also well out , and decided to shoot the return line . Had birds crossing in front but farm buildings and house meant had to let them go , so just shot birds coming over from the back as t is was safe.had some good sport and shot high birds on the return line the flapper and deeks pulled birds over me,the sun was very hot and being at my back birds did not see me till to late. Got 21 not a big bag but great sport.
  14. Was out on a local permission that had two fields of wheat cut on sat.birds had been using the field when it was standing and had small laid patches, they are hard fields to shoot as it has roads on three sides ,took my grandson who is only ten years old but very keen.I had to set the decoys on a diagonal as to off set the roads not ideal as the flight line was down a hedge line but it would mean shooting to one of the roads so a no to that, set up on straw stack deeks on my left had birds come round to have look and shot a dozen or so , wind got stronger and changed a bit that altered the line moved hide to the hedge and deeks more left to off set the road grandson shot is first woodie a bird that landed in the seeks with is air rifle to say he was pleased well he never stopped talking about it.he also finished off a couple of wounded birds . We finished on 28 . But had to leave a lot of birds that crossed in front due to roads . But still a good day with the youngster.
  15. After looking at a perm that had a lot of birds on it last Sunday. None showing as feeding on a syndicate shoot nearby-so looked at some other ground. Birds on stubble but could not go to the upwind side of field as a horse paddock was at other end and a footpath.birds going into a wood off my boundary .so set up on downwind side to intersept birds going to wood. Had some good downwind fast birds and a few that decoyed end did up with 15 pigeon a crow and a magpie . Not a big bag but a enjoyable 2 hours.
  16. Hi is the gun still for sale . Is it 3 inch chamber and steel proof..
  17. We have had a few good days of weather so checked a farm to see if they had started to silage.when I got to farm they where taking silage off.as it was the only field done it was attracting a lot of crows but because of the machinery I could not shoot it. So set up on a maize field that crows flying over to go to the grass field being silaged.set out deeks and my hide . Birds came over in singles and I had sport but the line changed going over a housing estate . To the said field if only I was over there. But did get some birds and shot o k . Picked 14 crows and 3 woodies for 22 shots.
  18. Hi guys. Got a phone this morning farmer saying crows everywhere. Got to farm crows on silage clamp in field and on a late sown maize field watched for ten mins. And decididthe maize was best place as a flight line was going into it. Hide under a oak tree eight decoys on field birds came in straightaway got one with second shot and missed the next one. After that shot well getting three doubles and picked 35 crows for 41 shots .then the rain came I got wet through and so did all my gear. So packed up and had a good reception back at farm .farmer said he will call me if crows go back on the maize. Here,s hoping..
  19. Was a good afternoon 41 birds and seeking cuckoos.have not seen a cuckoo for two years now , used to see and hear them at this time regular.
  20. Had look at one of our perms this afternoon.the field has been ploughed for a while and the farmer always puts some late sowing in.a cold strong wind and the field has been worked over a lot of birds on when I got there.had good look but no grain showing at all so hope sowing in next day or so.pushed birds off and they flew onto another field off our perm.some birds using tree,s at the far end so set up . Only had static deeks as forgot battery for turbo, flapper .birds wanted field off our boundary as no seed on ours but a weak flight line over the tree, smane line was at the back of me as they came out of a big wood .had some sport and got 9 woodies and 8 ferals.but the other field looked like a good bag was to be had.as said earlier hope sowing goes in on our perm for the weekend.
  21. Thanks for all the replies not a big bag but nice weather and some nice birds.really enjoyed it.
  22. Had a look at a 5acre drill.some birds in trees and a few on the drilling. Watch for about 1 Hour and a few more came to the trees set up with breeze and sun at my back , there has not been a lot of birds in the area so was happy at seeing some. Could not shoot to my right as a house was in range this saved a few birds, but the 2.5 hours produced 14 pigeon and 1 rabbit .
